To all the people that keep their dogs on chains like me, how do you manage to keep your dogs clean. I only ask becuase it's always a challenge for me . The area my dogs are near are wooded areas and open land and my chocolate females (Cocco) is always getting dusty and dirty. I bath her at lease once a week because of the dirt on her and this has happens 2 time already. I've gone to the vet and all I'm given is allergic/oatmeal shampoo which helps but what can I do to prevent this? My other two dogs Rocco and Corona don't have this problem because they don't roll around in the dirt like my chocolate one does. So what can I do?

You use a vaccume and clean all the dust. LOL no dogs on chains can stay clean unless you have them in the house and give them a bath every day.

The dog need oatmeal shampoo BECAUSE you are washing it once a week. It is not healthy, and is unneeded. They honestly can't smell that bad, we have dogs that haven't been bathed their whole life, and could come inside tomarrow if sprayed by the hose and dried off.

All you can do, is cut down on the dust and dirt. If the dog isn't on the chain very long per day , a hard surfaced chain-spot like concrete or rock gravel may be a possibility. Take a look at Marty or Shons pictures, I really like the gravel they have found, you might try it.

Let the dogs be stinky, filthy, repulsive dogs-I promise, they have more fun that way! ;)

MY dogs are always on chains. I guess all I can do is washing her once a week and brush her. I still don't know why she is the only one with this problem.

You must accept the fact that dog's kept on the chain outdoors are going to be dirty just for the simple fact that they are outside! They lie around there chain spots were they urinate and deficate....if there chain spot are on dirt or gravel, dust from the ground will stay on them too!

Once again, bathing them once a week does more harm then good.

Like the other posters stated, you can't keep the dust off. Before i got the gravel dust, like Rock14 suggests, they were digging in the dirt and getting dusty. Now the gravel dust is the same thing. JUst dragging the chain across it makes it fly everywhere.

So what can I do?as long as your ground is clean, and they are on good flea and tick medicine you have nothing to worry about.dust doesn't hurt your dog at all.remember the dog is a animal and he doesn't give a shit if he has dust on him.just let the dog be and let him enjoy his life, all your doing by bathing him once a week is killing the skin and coat and making him miserable.

Agreed Marty and Old Timer, I guess I have to just accept it. It's still weird how my other two don't have any dust of them at all?

Probably just shows up more on the darker colored dog. Or she could be a "roller". My dark brindle male loves to roll around in the dirt like a dam hog takin a mud bath!!!

you are washing the dog too much.

besides baths or putting grass down. lol..there is no way to keep the dirt and dust off...
heck, I just gave Notch a bath last Monday, and then I had to put him on the chain when I went to the grocery store on Wednesday, and he had rolled all around in the dirt. lol. Crazy dogs.
But yeah, since she's an outside dog, it shouldn't matter too much. Dogs are like kids, they are bound to get dirty.

i agree, too much bathing going on.
just take a brush and brush them off, if it really bothers you. and i used to do what Marty mentioned, just hose that dirt down.
could be the dirt is actually helping to cool those dogs down, as well, being that they're darker colored, not sure, as your location is not mentioned.
mine used to do that purposely tho=roll in the dirt, dig a hole and then hole up, in the hole.
every dog is different.
but i personally wouldn't bathe as much. ( not necessary)

I agree that your washing the dog too much but I know what you mean about the dust. At the end of the day we give the dogs a brushing with a boar bristle brush or something like that with really dense bristles. I sweeps the dust off the coat adn skin without smearing it around. If you just use a wash rag or water it just makes a bigger mess. So if you brush and then use a rag for their undercarriage it works pretty well. I brush Rory's legs too, she loves it!

The vet. required to be wash every 3-7 days until her skin condition would go away. Sorry I for forgot to mention that she suffered a allergic reaction to spider bites from her box as well (skin color change, hair fell out, got alot of scabs. And the dirt wasn't helping at all with it and a oat meal wash was required every 3-7 days. So that's why I asked how to keep the dirt off while this condition is going away. And yes she did get serveral injections and pills. She's good now and the box has been cleaned already.

Ah that poor girl! Damn spiders! I still reccomend a good brushing with a dense vrush to get excess dirt off

Off topic, but on. My daughter got bit from a whole liter of black widow babies one time. Mom had made a nest under her bed. She kept saying something was biting her and I finally looked. I hate spiders and fear them more than anything else.

Yeah, at 1st I didn't think it was anything serious than when I open her box up it was bad....So I have to keep the dirt/dust off her....She's been good lately.

is there anyway to keep her in your house until the condition is done? or is that not a possibility?

She's good so far and I've been keeping a good watch on her box. I did think about keeping her inside but I don't want her to get use to sleeping inside other wise when she's back outside she'll just bark all night at my window. Hopefull you gusy understand.
