As long as they are urinating, it shouldn't matter.;)

Alot of males are a year old or better before they will hike their leg. Some will wait until they are 15-16 monthes old.

Zues is a little over 5yrs and has never cocked his leg.
I think maybe this is from having him fixed (BROKE) too young.
As long as he pees it's all good though. LOL

Scrappy was about 1 1/2 before he hiked up his leg. He will still squat from time to time. But Mike who had Scrappy to learn off of was about 6 months the 1st time.

It depends on the dog. I wish our Dogo had never learned to cock his leg, because the first thing he did was water the Christmas tree with all the presents underneath. Now he sticks to watering other dogs, and neighbors through the fence. Some dogs seem to learn by example, too, so it may take longer if he hasn't seen other males doing it.

I think it varies dog to dog... My big boy Boomer only cocks his leg to pee when he is peeing on one particular bush in the yard. And he turned a year old in Nov. but I think we had him fixed at too early of an age..

Now Folsom (who isn't fixed) has been cocking his leg since he was about 5 months and he's 9 months old now. But he cocks his leg if he's peeing on a tree or if he is just peeing in the yard.

All and all I wouldn't worry about it. You've got an awesome looking dog.

I wouldn't worry about it. Shaker was an old man when he passed on, but he still squatted like a girl. It took something really special to make him want to hike his leg & mark over it.

And Rex was the same way. He had no problem squatting to pee. I personally thought this particular dog was just plain lazy.

Yet Wrigley, my neutered at an early age mixed breed, started lifting his leg around 7 months & still does to this day.

To be honest, in my group of dogs, the intact males squat more to pee than the neutered ones. I dunno why, but it doesn't bother me. It's just their preference.

Mine is 14 months and squats all of the time in the back yard but he just started hiking his leg and marking everything outside of the yard. I perfer him not to hike his leg. Now that he has started he wants to hike on everything outside of the back yard.

I think my brother's lab was around 1 before he started to hike his leg up...
the funny thing is my lab/husky mix female used to try to hike her leg up when we first got her. i was like "what the heck?", but she only did that for like a week or two, and finally started to pee like a lady. lol.
