Some of the best parts.....
The rise in dog maulings came despite a drop in dog ownership.
Dr Besser said: "It is clear that the 1991 Dangerous Dogs Act does not work. For a start, it does not cover the majority of bites that occur in the family home, and only 764 people were prosecuted under the act in 2005.
"Also, all dogs bite, not just the four breeds prohibited under the act. One study showed that the most common dog bites were from Staffordshire bull terriers, Jack Russell terriers, medium sized mongrels, and Alsatians.
Dr Besser said if further action to combat dog attacks was not successful, then dogs might have to be banned completely.
"Ultimately perhaps the only way to stop dog bites will be to ban dogs. In the meantime I suggest a Department of Health campaign for next Christmas: 'Just ask for a goldfish.'"

I was bitten across the face by a springer spaniel, 4 yrs ago. I was medicating this old dog with a meatball.....a/d no less. Deffinatly put that relationship in perspective.
I agree....all dogs can bite!

is this guy for real?
Did anyone notice the number one dog listed to bite?

And what the heck is a "dogbo???"

and Alsatians.
what is this?
Alastian is the British name for German Shepherd. From what I understand Brits stopped using the name German Shepherd for the GSD during WWII.
Both the Brits & the U.S. tried to eliminate any reference to Germany & to a lesser extent, Russia. So during the WWII period, the in the UK the German Shepherd became the Alastian & in the U.S. the Russian Wolfhound became the Borzoi.
They even changed names of foods! For example I believe in the U.S. they changed the name of sauerkraut to Liberty cabbage!
Hope this helps! ;)

it does help. Thanks!!!
Here in New York, though, we still say sauerkraut..:)
Yea, we do too. I think the Brits are holding a grudge against the Germans, b/e we Yanks dropped the name Alastian & Liberty cabbage a long time ago.
But we still do call Russian Wolfhounds Borzois. lol.

But we still go call Russian Wolfhounds Borzois. lol. Those are good dogs, never been bit by one of those, lol. Had one as a kid. One time, my friends Cocker Spaniel lunged at my face out of nowhere and I fell backwards into a glass coffee table....ouch!! Had some glass stuck in me, probably would have been better off taking the bite, lol.
anyone for some "freedom fries"?? :D
Me! me! I want some freedom fries!! Of course an order of those is probably the last thing I need, but you only live once, right? :D
I've met several Borzoi at dog shows & they were always the most gentle calm dogs I'd met. I was even once considering getting a Borzoi.
Too bad about the fall. IMO Cockers are evil, evil little dogs who need to disappear from this planet.
Or instead of having them winked out of existence, maybe we could at least make those little devils useful & ship then to starving families in Asian countries to be used as a garnish!
But then again, those dogs are so filled w/ bitter & gall they'd probably poison someone!

Isn't the point of fighting against BSL that all dogs can be vicious, that it has nothing to do with the breed??
Yes, but getting rid of cockers would actually do some good. According to the last CDC & ER stats the cocker is the number one dog for bites to the face as well as bites to children & the elderly.
Our dogs aren't.

Our dogs aren't.I know, I have been bit by two of them, and then the incident I mentioned earlier. It's unfortunate really....another breed that once had a purpose, and isn't bred much for work anymore. Now the puppy mills have ruined the breed.

You said it right there.
I have met many cockers & they were all nut jobs who would bite you as soon as look at you. I did however have the pleasure of meeting one field bred cocker & she was a very nice dog.
A one in 10,000 dog.

I have noticed a very steady increase in aggression in Golden Retreivers. I would have to say, being a groomer and trainer, the most aggressive breeds I see are lhasa apsos/shih tzus and golden retreivers.
