I know a few WORKING australian sheppards, who work the farms out this way, and they are great animals. One of them is supposed to be a nationally accreditted something or another, and worth quite a bit of $$, and I can see why. Dog is smart as a whip, athletic, great at its job, and great with people. Just like most working dogs are!
I only know of one Aussie Sheppard, who was 1/2 Corgi, and who was not a working dog. Coincidently enough, I was bitten of this dog, as well as a few others, and he died at a young age due to genetic health complications.
I'm far from an expert on any one breed, much less one I've never owned, so take this as you will. My experience has always been working dogs, with a job, and utilized, are much better canines, in nearly every circumstance then those detached from their history, and bred to make cute pups.

They are more then capable for agility, watching a well-bred Aussie work the fields, herding livestock is simply amazing. Its awe-inspiring watching a dog bred for a specific reason for decades, act on their baser-instincts, and do what they love to do-flawless. If I had sheep, or other livestock where one could be utilized to its potential, I wouldn't mind one around the yard. Watching them work is poetry in motion, its like a perfectly coreographed dance, one perfected over the years, where no thought is involved-its all instinct.
