Jaeger and I went to the Florida State Fair with the Mid-Florida American Pit Bull Terrier Association. We were there from 9am - 6pm on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday. On Sunday he participated in two weight pull demonstrations, and on Monday and Tuesday he did some small obedience and agility demonstrations. All three days we wondered around the "purebreed dog exhibit" tent, while Jaeger handed out free kisses to everyone. Here are a couple of pics that you could make out. Jaeger moves so darn fast it is hard to get any pictures of him.

It was a really great experience for us. We got a chance to meet so many people and talk to them about the APBT, what their personality is truly like, why they make it in the news, etc. I think having Jaeger wear his TD/SD vest made some people more relaxed and more willing to meet him. Even the majority of the "anti-pit" type of people were visiting with Jaeger once they found out that he has his Canine Good Citizen, is a certified Therapy Dog, and is a working service dog (all at the age of 10mths old). Sorry if I am bragging, I am just so proud of my little boy.

Thanks for looking.

Great job. Nice pict of you both and the other picts are cute too. Sounds like a wonderful dog

I'm just curious as to what org therapy certified him though because most require the dog be at least a year of age

What type of service dog training is he doing. Will he be used for you or a family member or will you be giving him up to a family who needs him?

He was certified as a TD through a local organization (Project PUP). Jaeger was tested and certified when he was 8mths old. They do their own testing in an actual ALF. They do two tests: the first test is administered using Project PUP volunteers, if the dog passes that part they advance to the second test. For this part of the test they are observed actually visiting residents in the ALF. Our group retests the dogs annually for the first two years, then bi-annually after that.
Jaeger is a Seizure Response Dog for my husband. We expect that he will become a natural seizure alert dog also.
BTW, I forgot to mention that Jaeger is the head dog for the R.E.A.D. program at the main branch of our local library. The program begins in April and will be held on the first Saturday, Sunday, and Monday of each month.

Can you post a link to the organization. Sounds interesting. I don't know if I agree with them on testing so early though, do they also insure the dog like the other orgs do?

Thanks

That is great that he can help your hubby out. How is the training going? What is involved with teaching him those skills

I love the R.E.A.D. program. Three of my dogs are therapy certified and do that as well their other work in the hospital and schools

Best of luck to you in the new program

Keep us posted on how he does.
