Ok out in Cheyenne's pen I have a big thick rubber bowl that hold about 5 gallons of water. I think it used for horses or something..but I thought it would be good for the dogs so I bought 3. I change the water daily at feeding time.. usually 2 or 3 times in the summer when its hot and they are drinking more and all that.

My problem is Cheyenne flips hers over CONSTANTLY.. I've tried everything I can think of. I dig a hole and put it in, I've put it up on blocks, I've stuck it down in a hole in a tire, and I can't figure out what to do to keep her from flipping it over. I fill it up and within 15 minutes it's flipped over or she's running around with it in her mouth.

Suggestions?

concrete dishes maybe?

Hmmm.. wonder how hard they'd be to make.

i have this problem with some of my catahoulas. i drive 2 t-posts down as far as i can get them with the driver and put 2 of the cheap ratchet straps on the bucket, one at top and one at bottom. after a couple weeks they figure they can't knock it over anymore and i can pull the posts up.

or you could get 4 3' stakes and evenly spread them around the bucket, worked for me;)

They are very simple, if you would like, PM me and I can give you directions.
I too would have to suggest this. We had the same problem, we went to concrete bowls...they can not and will flip them over. We still have 2 reg. ones, but they dont bother them.

I got a couple like that, so I bought some of them plastic barrels, and cut the bottom and the top off, used the middle for an awning on a dog house. So the bottom and tom 1/3rd of the barrel is used as a water bucket. They can't dump that.

I had the same problem, Achilles would always flip his water bucket within minutes after refreshing it, he would only do this when he is on the chain, when not the bucket is in place. I heard walmart sells concrete flower bowls for $10 or less.

IDK

Hmmm.. wonder how hard they'd be to make.when I get home tonight I can post pictures of the ones that I have. I have both the food bowl and water bowl. they look pretty simple to make. I know the food bowl was made using an upsidedown plastic food bowl for the form, and the concrete was poured into it and let harden then the plastic bowl was removed. not too sure about the water bowl though.

edit: i found some pics. you can see the foodbowl in one pic and the the water bowl in the other. tonight I will take better pics and post!!

Suggestions?i use concrete myself except for when the water freezes then i use big buckets.i noticed when i was looking around stillwaters site he had something on there about concrete bowls,it's been a while since i looked and i can't remember if it was bowls or molds but you might want to talk to him and see what he says about it.but concrete will solve your problem.

A lot of them at walmart, you have to drill your own hole, the ones without the hole are a lot cheaper too.

I just wanted to say that i had a friend who usedto make them and sell them.. what you do it find a big deep dish dog bowl plastic of course..

flip it upside down on the underneith.. take a plastic bag to line the bag for easy removal , and fill the underneith with concrete and let dry..
after the concrete drys it should easily pop out.. VOILA there ya go.. hope it helps!

Thanks everybody! I am going to buy some of the concrete bowls like what ol' Marty's got and try it out. Right now I used a bigger tire.. a big truc tire and the rubber bowl I have fits nicely in it.. but the big concrete flower pot would look prettier.. the old lady loves pretty!
