I got a new female a few months back and she is a great bulldog, and has a chance to be the best I have ever had. But I just noticed the other day that I have never heard her bark. I have heard her wimper and growl, but not once have I ever heard her bark and she is 8mos old. I have inspected her mouth for any signs of problems and she is perfect. I am not worried, but just curious. Anyone else seen this? Can anyone teach me how to get my wife not to bark?....lol

I have seen dogs never bark at all, even though they had no problems with the voice they are just calm. I like a dog that dosn,t bark all the time. Visious dosn,t bark unless there is someone in the back yard with her that isn,t suposto be there or if she is playing with another dog.

No barking? Its a miracle!! lol I've actually had a few that did little to no barking, but at the moment I would love to have more like that.. lol
Your wife barking? that should be alright but I'd be concerned if she started biting... ;)

Big Girl rarely barks...Even when all the other dogs in the neighborhood are barking like crazy, she just runs back and forth from fence to fence trying to figure out whats going on....Of course she picks something up to run around with in her mouth as soon as she goes outside, her kong or a tennis ball or something so maybe her mouth is always full so thats why she is quiet.
Now she can be verbal, growling during play, and doing that howly growly thing, she just doesn't bark a whole lot.

Don't mean nothing! I prefer dogs who arent loud-mouthed S.O.B.'s. We have one like that, who I've never heard bark in my life, but he does his fair share of whinning and whimpering if he doesn't get what he wants! I'd kill for 100 dogs that way, much easier to care for then the ones who bark all day-long if they so much as see another dog get walked by.

My oldest girl never barked until she was about 6 or 7. She would snarl and growl at other dogs and whine for things.....but never barked. Now as soon as she goes outside, she barks her head off for about a minute just to let everyone within earshot know she's out there, lol.

Her mother isn't a barker either. Nor is Attila. But the rest of them never shut up. As for the wife, hmm have you tried meaty bones? When she gets to barking just give her a bone. That is what I do when the dogs get going nuts. Open the freezer and take out some deer bones or sheep. what ever is in the dog treat freezer.

Well, it must be city thing. Many of the ABPT that live in buildings (at least in my city) do not bark. It is the little ankle biters who do most of the barking in my building. Many of these dogs are naturally quite, others, can be easily taught to be so. My boy does not bark and that is how I like it. In fact, I will make sure none of mine bark. I do let my boy bark when other dogs bark at him, yet, he asks me first though (he looks at me and whines).
And NOLEFAN, you are lucky wifie just barks....mine whines...lmao!

My dog Stockey was and is like that. When we first got him my wife and I thought he had been debarked for a long while. I think it was in excess of a month before we heard him bark and he still almost never barks. About the only time he'll give voice is when he's really happy and excited.

I think its normal, some dogs are early barkers some are not lol, Achilles my pitbull started barking at 11 months, before he would wimper when he sees a dog or cat (still does), funny thing is pitbulls are not the biggest dogs, but by the tone of his bark you would think he's a lion, very deep barks, my female neo mastiff on the other hand , if she hears a mouse outside , she will bark all day. I wouldnt worry bout it.

THE WIFE THING IS A JOKE! i DON'T WANT NO FEMINAZI'S BASHING ME.your gamedogs don't bark much for the most part.then on other occasions you get some that bark at the drop of a pin.mine fall into the latter catagory.you have not got anything to worry about these dogs were always pretty quiet laid back animals unless they wanted to do something like oh i don't know get at another dog, lol.count your blessings that you have a quiet one.and when she does bark at something you be sure and check it out.that to me is the best kind of dog you can have, one that only barks when needed.

I am definitely counting it a blessing! I've had quite a few dogs in my time and never had any this quiet, it's just one more good thing about her. I am very glad I got her, and I am ever grateful to my benefactor.
I had a female a few years ago that would go ape crap over any little noise. I had to stop lettin her sleep on the bed because she would almost give me a coronary!

The APBTs I trained with were all pretty silent. It took A LOT to get them to bark when alerting.
I had my Greyhound for over a year before I heard him bark! He still isn't a big barker, but now he does sing (howl) on command. But before then, he was silent except for whining and groaning.

i had one like this. Everytime i went to the yard he was on, he was silent. I figured that was an added bonus when i picked him up.
Well, he was quite for a few months.... then the little f#cker discover'd his bark and wouldnt shut up!!!! He sounded like a dying seal..... needless to say, he's not around anymore!
