View Full Version : Champ's leg :(
Over the weekend the weather was nice and I let my pups play outside (Champ who is 9 months, Asia who is 5 months, and Star who is 4 months). Well after we came back inside I noticed Champ limping a little. I checked his foot and leg and there are no scratches or cuts. I felt all over his leg and foot and gently squeezed and he did not cry or anything. It does not appear to be swolen either. So, I have been making him stay in his crate to try to make him stay off his leg. Sometimes he lays around like he doesn't feel well, other times he acts a fool wanting out. Last night I started letting him sit in my lap and then I apply a heating pad to the leg and foot area while he sits with me. When he goes out to potty he will run sometimes, so I am thinking it may not be broken or anything. But, I noticed yesterday when he was sitting in his crate that he picks his paw up off of the ground slightly. Is it possible that maybe he has a splinter or something in his paw that I can't see? Or maybe just sprang something while playing? What do yall think? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Did you check between his toes real well? Is he licking it or anything?
I checked between his toes and did not see anything. He is not licking it either.

I would try placing my hand on the bottom of his paw and pressing up against to see how he reacts to that. Bend all joints and stuff. Give it a few more days, doesn't sound too serious to try and wait it out. But whatever it is could get infected, too.

Symptoms sound very similar to what happened to my girl. She would limp for a while after getting up, wouldn't show any pain when the leg was manipulated, and there were no other physical signs, nor could her vet find anything wrong by phyiscal examination. The most consistent thing seems to be that its hard surfaces causing tenderness in her joints. We completely cut out our night walks in the neighborhood because of all the concrete, and the problem seems to have cleared up 100%. I am also careful to stretch her out before things like agility practice.

sounds like it could also be a torn ligament. It's pretty common, like the human equivalent to a torn ACL. Give it a few days and if it doesn't get better, take him to the vet.
