I know I ask alot of Dog Food questions, but I put the new puppy on Solid Gold Hundenflocken. I havent seen a problem, but I wonder if the Solid Gold Wolf Cub would be better. I understand that its for large breed dogs and I would not consider pits to be a LARGE breed, but would it be a better feed?

I would like to use Timberwolf, but it would be inconvience for me to order online all the time. The only other food that I think is high quality that I can get at the pet store in town is Nutro Natural Choice.

Which option would you use and why? Or would you chose something different?

Thanks for helping!

I've recently switched to feeding Diamond's Corn free lamb and rice and the results have been very good for me. Cut down on Folsom's "gag a maggot farts" and I don't have to shovel up as much crap as before either. Also the price is reasonable for me 23.25 for 40lbs.

we feed the timberwolf, and its amazing. i know marty also uses that feed. my akita has 42 allergies, so we've tried out so many kibbles its insane.

solid gold's food is a good kibble. i'd keep with that as opposed to nutro if i were you. both companies as of late are adding more fillers, BUT solid gold, IMO, is still higher quality.

we fed hawk wolf king/cub obviously since hes large breed, but when we adopted our pitmix we also had her on the wolfcub. i dont really think it would be much of a difference. i, personally, dont buy into the breed/size specific foods. mainly i think the difference is the protein and/or fat sources, so i would go with the solid gold food based on which one of them would be best suited for what you want to do ultimately with your pup. :)

hope that helps.

you guys have it made....They discontinued the Diamond brand where I live because of the past problems with it. I have been using Nutro and it has been pretty good so far. I know Zigana doesn't have gas as much and the lady that recommended it said that it doesn't cause their belly to get bloated like some dog foods do. Take that for what it is worth, because that is the first i have heard of that, but she sounded knowledgable on the subject. Zigana really seems to like it and even though it is a little bit more expensive than others, it is working for now.

I wouldn't feed the Wolf Cub/Wolf King stuff just because of the large breed factor. Loki did well enough on Hundenflocken. Just curious, have you tried the websites of some of the good dog food companies? They usually have a dealer locator. I just checked the Canidae, Innova, and Nature's Variety websites, and they all have multiple dealers in Houston. You might find something you like as much as the SG.

I started canadae, then i had a brain fart, and thought i could save some bucks by switching to kirklands chicken and rice premium dog food from Costco, its decent for the $, and the ingredients are not bad, the only thing my dogs started to poop a lot and more often, im back on canadae now and they are happy.

I am trying the nutro naturals right now because I like the fact that it has 3 protein sources. Been feeding it for a few weeks and I like it so far. Her coat is nice, no ear infections (she gets ear infections form a lot of foods), good stools etc....
But I also like the solid gold. The bonus with the wolf cub, if memory serves me correctly, is that it is made with bison and salmon right? Some dogs do better fed game foods rather than chicken and such.
But, like someone else said, there are better foods out there. I would also suggest going to the sites and checking their supplier location lists.
