Here's a dog thats on the barf diet. I feed whole carcass. I tried something instead of feeding store bought stuff that has hormones I catch my own. I finally made a feeding schedule that works out. Every week I have mon-tues off so I go fish and hunt. I get enough to last till the next time I'm off. Really time consuming but it pays off. I also supplement with 1-2 cups of diamond naturals at night. He eats alot of fish(I own a whale), his coat is amazing. Well enough talk you be the judge.

If you do it right, IMO raw is the best way to go. And feeding what you've caught/killed is doing it the best way possable. That dog looks fantastic.

Thanks, I'm telling ya it isn't easy taking care of these dogs. They aren't for everyone. I spend more time with my dogs then my gf. If I'm not working I'm with the dogs. Here's his pedigree http://www.apbt.online-pedigrees.com/public/printPedigree.php?dog_id=184780

I meant he was a whale

Just curious: I know there is a risk with high consumption of mercury in humans, especially in pregnant & nursing mothers, but is the same true for dogs?

To be honest I have not clue. I've never really thought about it like that. I know that with some of the bigger stuff like the kings, tunas and such will have a higher mercury content. Thus they have a warning about eating portions in humans. But I've never thought too much of that. Lol we both eat fish from the same source. (If he goes I probaly wont be too far behind lol). The fish diet I came up with for him consist of mostly of catfish, tliapia, bass as its closer to go to lakes and friend's ponds. Now when I do go to freeport he'll get shad, mullet, specks, sand trout, mackerel. Its 2 wks of fish then 1 wk of red meats. Then its swapped the other way around. I guess to an extent mercury levels shouldn't be that high as most of the stuff comes from friends ponds anyways. But will definatley do some research on that. Thanks for pointing that out Mia.

Hey great looking dog I also feed raw stuff mostly chicken and catfish but just a word of caution when you feed fish make sure to keep your dogs wormed good I don't know what it is about fish but i fed fish heavy for a while to some of my dogs and it wasn't anytime that they were infested with worms I don't know if was just me or what but I'd thought I'd let you know about what happend with me. other than that fish is Great!

Your dog looks good but I dont think I feed them stuff from the wild. If I was you I'd seriously consider raising my own "feeder foods" just so you know that they dont have any kinds of diseases or crap like that.

Also, do you bake it first or let them eat it completely raw?

I couldn't resist had to brag about him. But as far as the worm problem when it comes to eating raw. For the fishermen out there, some fish not all have worms in them. Ever fillet a speck and find a worm or two in the fillet. I started fishing alot longer than I was into dogs. So to fix the problem, I dont ever just feed straight to him what I catch. It goes in the freezer thawed out and then fed to him. Hadn't had a problem with worms yet. One thing I can honestly say is the dogs coat produces a whole lot more skin oils. Ever seen a dog that looks perfect and clean but when you pet em you hand looks as if you been playin in the mud. Fish also leaves you a dog smelling more like the seafood smell at the market than a dog too. Sounds weird but true. Again thanks for the comments.
Oh yeah I feed frozen thawed , nothing is ever cooked. The only thing that gets baked, fried, steamed, grilled or cooked is the food I eat.

Also, do you bake it first or let them eat it completely raw? Most wild game is very clean I feed alot of deermeat and bones and Beef hart to my dogs have done it for years and they are doing great. I do keep up with all my meds like clock work. But as far as feeding things from the woods Ive done it my father did it, as my grandfather also and no worries. Id reather feed that than 90% of the dog feed you buy. Yis J

Around here we have alot of problems with mosqitous carrying diseases and mess. Also all the possums and armadillos. Where we used to live, my dogs ran loose "not pits" and they got ahold to an armadillo and withinin two weeks my dogs started dying off. I tried everything I could think of but nothing worked so...

Well to each his own right? I'm just leary about feeding them wild animals. I know the dog foods have some pretty nasty shit in them but, I dont know...
