After a good workout, do you rubdown your dogs? For how long? Do you feel it has an effect on their performance? Is it major or minor?

Yes, I dont keep a timer going, but probably around 15-20 minutes. It definetly helps their performance, in a few ways. The biggest, is it keeps them loose, and promotes muscle recovery much sooner. It frees the muscles of lactic acid, and makes some of that "burning" go away, that you get after a hard-workout. Also, its great for the bond with the animal, physically putting your hands on it and comforting it everytime a workout is done.

If your not working an animal hard enough that a thorough rub-down is needed, I still suggest a short one, just for the bond, a quick-rub down to loosen them up, as well as calm them down before allowing them to drink water.

Is it best to do the rub down before or after they drink? Currently, I do it after, but is there any difference?

For me, its not only after a workout but also before. My dogs likes it.

The rubdown should be done after the cool down phase of the workout, but the dog will still be breathing quite heavily, and you need to let the dog get some wind under him before letting them gulp down water. I give a few sips before the workout, but dont let them have much for up to 20 minutes after a workout to save their gut from bloat.

Crazy I really wish you would use a larger font to type in. Old people can't read that. Second time I have had to get out the magnifying glass to read your print. I rub down approximately 15 minutes. some times with talc or on very hot days we go down to the creek to chill off and kill cotton mouths, water moccasin, copper heads and what ever other poisonious snake is down there. I use my 410. Kills em dead.
