Collar question...?!?!

I have a collar that has 2 pieces of collar connecting into a ring that is about the size of a silver dollar. I am trying to figure out if there is a reason for this ring, or if it is just for looks etc. I would take a picture but am not on the proper computer right now.

These are the type collars, a lot of hunters use.
I make a lot of them for coon hunters, at least.
They like them, cause the don't get caught on as much stuff running threw the woods as the ones with d-rings do.

The ring is just a place to clip lead to.

I would use one for a tie-out collar.
