I have one question. How or what is the best exercise that I can use to build my dog's bite. She's just a pup and I don't want to do too much. She eats on these really hard bones all the time and it takes about a month to finish them and I play tug-o-war with her all the time. Is that enough right now? Someone help me out. Thanks.

For something that young, I'd just give a tennis ball or small Kong toy. Just supervise the pup closely, as some young uns can shred a tennis ball quick.

they make these hollow rubber balls they sell at walmart, I think they work really swell too.
I let mine play tug of war in their chain spots with each other with a piece of inner tube from a bike tire. They like it but I have to keep a close eye on them.

you've said that yours is just a pup. my question is how young can someone start these workouts to avoid such accidents and makes his or her bites undershot?

I don't think you can make your dog have an underbite. They either have it or they don't. My pup has always played tug of war with my sisters and stuff and she still has a perfect scissor bite. We don't snatch her around and stuff like that. You have to still be gentle with their teeth. You can't expect them to go hanging on a rope on a tree when they are still pups. Thats not good at all. lol. Where did you hear that you can make your dog get an underbite? Has anyone else heard of that?

i haven't but i let mines dogs play with footballs , that pig skin is real tough , or i get some cow skin and they just play and bite on that , that helps but it wont make them a underbite dog. just stregnthen their jaws though
hope that helps!

What you are using is just fine. It is what I use at all stages of their lives. A lot of toys are advertised as '' pitbull proof'', after owning a Pit you will easily realize there is no such thing. Many have had to undergo emergency operations for an obstructed toy in their stomachs or intestines./ Don't fall in love with seeing your dog hanging from his mouth while holding on to something. It is OK at an age from about 7 to 10 months but just for not longer than 5 or 6 seconds at a time. Too much of this will ruin their teeth. No ropes either. Tug o' war with old t-shirts and the bone have worked just fine with my dogs.
A good Kong works best, bones are not bad later in life but you need to be careful while his teeth develope, the inner tube suggestion is great for tug of war, strong yet not like those thick ropes where a dog can get its canines stuck in it and too much pulling can put too much strain on the tooth caught. I look at different excersises as building the muscles it most uses, a Kong will help the stabilizer muscles in the jaw as well and the constant gnawing will help with pressure, the tug of war helps with grip, helps their muscle endurance in the jaw muscles as well as building up the neck strength.
Again, just take it easy on those puppy teeth

I've been useing a rope with a peace of water hose about 2 ft. lonf around the rope. Made a loop in the rope so I can hold and she likes the water hose better then anything and is soft for her teeth.

be careful with t-shirts and towels and fabric type stuff, had a partner lose a well bred dog after playing tug of war with a towel. towel wraped around dogs intestines and dog died as a result. those large rubber balls at the pet store are good or a good piece of hide, but do not over kill. a dogs jaw strength is also genetic, it will only get so much stronger even with work.
