BULVERDE — A Texas Lutheran University linebacker played defense in his own home Friday afternoon when he walked in on a burglary in progress.
Comal County Sheriff’s Office Detective Sgt. Tommy Ward said two burglars broke into a home near FM 1863 in Bulverde, and were surprised by the owners’ son.
Beau Kitchen, 18, a freshman at TLU and a former Smithson Valley football player, found two men stealing guns and electronic equipment at about 1:30 p.m., Ward said.
“He physically detained one person until we arrived,” the detective said. “And Beau’s dog assisted.”
Kitchen and his dog, Bentley, a American Staffordshire Terrier, held San Antonio resident Francisco Rodriguez, 21, until Bulverde police and county deputies came to detain him.
Rodriguez was taken to Comal County Jail on one count of burglary to a habitation.
The other suspect, an unknown man, escaped with some of the family’s property.
“The search for the other suspect continues,” Ward said.
