Literally less than 10 minutes ago I was out front on the lawn walking my pup Mia when out of no where a young male pit bull possibly mixed with maybe some yellow lab, came running up.

Not knowing if the dog was going to be aggressive or not, I picked up my pup and put her inside and grabbed a leash.

I put the leash around the dog like a lassow-type setup and pet it and he was really nice and calm.

I was walking him down the street the way he came from to see if anyone was back there looking for him when a cop pulled over and asked if it was my dog. I told him what had happened and he had me load the dog into the back of his car with my leash. He didn't say much and stated he didn't know who the owner was. (someone must have called about a loose dog) He then said he was going to call the "Dog catcher" and he'd bring me my leash back.

I told him the leash is the least of my worries, I just want to know where the dog is going, which is probably the SPCA. I'm going to call the shelter tomorow to see if his owner has claimed him.

Makes me kind of upset though not knowing what exactly is going to happen with the dog. If I didn't have 3 of my own, I would've taken him in if/until someone claimed him.

I would have taken my leash back for sure. Let the bacon get his own leash. I don't know what he was thinking anyway. Cops are for people not animals. No wonder they can't stop crime. Usless. did you get his badge and id number? car number? Sounds fishy. He didn't look like one of those weirdo dog eaters did he?

Here piggy, piggy , piggy! Where's my leash?

I agree with you Attlia. Sounds like that cop was up to no good.
Why would a police officer be dispatched for a loose dog. If someone did call the police about a loose the dog the operator would of told them to contact Animal control. The only time a cop would be dispatched because of a dog would be in the event that someone was attacked. Let's hope that was not the case. This reminds me of a pig joke:
How many cops does it take to screw in a light bulb? Just one, but he is never around when you need him.

It's a Pit Bull. They don't have to attack anyone for the police to be called. I've fostered quite a few Pits that were running loose in the Detroit area and not one of them were HA yet every time the DPD was there.

Well everyone, I called the shelter today. What had happened was the dog got loose, someone called about a loose dog, the officer (who I see very often) went looking for the dog and contained him until the animal warden picked him up. I left a message on the shelter's answering machine last night and called again this afternoon.

Then one of the managers of the shelter called me on my way home from work about 30 minutes ago and told me...

The owner got the dog right away which made me glad. He also had no signs of abuse or negleck and was VERY friendly. They also thanked me a bunch of times for helping and making the call, which made me feel even better.

So another good "pit bull" goes back home ;)

PS- I got my Rottweiler's leopard-print leash back
