looking for a good dog

HI my name is Dustin and i live in arizona my female is twelve and i just gave her to my mother to live out her life as a lap dog (even though she is 60lbs she still thinks she can sit in your lap). I visit this site every day and always find interesting things to read and the people here seem to know alot. i was wondering if any one could recamend a breeder that is close to here so i dont have to pay an arm and a leg for shipping. Ive checked the local animal shelters already and they dont have any puppies. I have a two year old daughter so i cannot take the chance of adopting an older dog. Any help that you can give will be greatly appretiated.
