Encounter w/ an Opossum

This morning, I let Sug' out back around 6:30. About 7 AM, I heard a loud BOOM on the fence. Sounded like the force of a man hitting or kicking it. Quickly looked out back and side windows. Dark, so hard to see. Ran out back. Sug' was on something. Called him off and it was an opossum. Looked dead - eyes closed, neck crooked. Sug' still wanted at him. Took Sug' inside. Cleaned up mud on him, carpet and rug. Called animal control. Transferred to solid waste. They won't come in back yard. Took shovel to back yard to bring opossum to front and it was gone!

Yea they play dead when they are threatened. Creepy little shits.

You're lucky if they play dead, they are capable of defending themselves pretty well. I've seen them be downright vicious.....

Yup, they can be rather nasty when they want to be.

Yes, I've seen them hiss and make a mess before - not pretty. This one was in such a limp and twisted position, that I thought maybe it was dead - sneaky thing. I bet it won't come in our backyard again though! :-)
