View Full Version : My miracle

So miracles do happen.
Some of you know, but not all, that my son was born with bilateral intraventricular hemorrhaging in the brain (bleeding in the brain http://www.healthsystem.virginia.edu/uvahealth/peds_neuro/ivh.cfm ). Basically, this was due to his being 6 weeks early & having a low birthweight. He was diagnosed with a Level II bleed (out of IV levels). Due to his prematurity & this condition, is head is somewhat larger than his body. However, he does not have hydrocephaly or fluid on the brain yet this condition can be caused by IVH. Although he's been progressing normally--smiling, cooing, etc--1 of his pediatricians thought his head looked larger, so a CT scan was scheduled this past Wednesday to check for any fluid collection. So bascially I've been scared to death thinking of what might be going on now & what that would mean to my son's future. I've been praying a lot & many others have been also praying for him.
Well, the doctor called today & gave me the news. I sat down so I could deal with the news. But I was beyond shocked, as was he, when he said there was NO sign of any bleeding in either ventricle, no sign of any fluid collection, nor any sign of damage caused by the past bleeding. I just started balling. Now, it's not uncommon for Level I's to clear up pretty rapidly as the blood is just reabsorbed, but Level IIs usually stay the same for life without causing any majory problems.
I'm just so happy. Either way I love my child & I know he would've had a happy life, but I can't help but be elated! He will have 1 more CT scan at 6 months of age & that's it as long as he's developing normally (according to his adjusted age which is the age he would be had he gone full term).
:) :D
