I thought I would do a little checking before I registered on your site. I am an older man who has raised pit bull for many years. Several years ago I decided to get out of the breeding and raising.
In the late 70's and the early to middle 80's I was raising, showing, weight pulling, obedience, catching, and competing with the dogs. I also helped to start several dog clubs, both UKC and ADBA. I bred and owned several champions and one grand champion. Several of the old timers people post about were friends of mine. One or two are dog judges now.
From what I have seen posted and from what I have observed in the last few years most of the owners nowdays are young. The oldtimers are either gone or got out of the dogs. For the last year I have been thinking about getting a dog or two. I was surprised that the quality of the dogs has not improved much in the last 25-30 years. It was also a surprise that many of the oldtimers did not pass on as much info as they could or should have.
If anyone here is interested in what an old man has to say about the breed, both those dogs in the past and the modern day dogs, just let me know. If there is much interest I will go ahead and register and post a little bit, if not I will just check in every once in a while to see how things are going.

You are right. It does appear that the majority of people that post are young. This board could always use someone who has alot of true firsthand experience.

I personally would like to hear what you have to say.. Lord knows I am full of questions, and I always like to hear from the experienced (old..hehehe) ones and learn from them...since I don't have a mentor.

Even though I'm by no means a kid (41), I have a ton to learn. I don't post all that much, because (other than standard dog knowledge) I don't have very much to pass along. I for one welcome folks with experience, as I plan on acting like a sponge and absorbing all I can.

Most of us are all here to learn as much as we can. We would appreciate any advise or knowledge you could share with us. The majority of us have a deep respect to the dogmen of the day that helped preserve the game dogs of yesterday. Its people like you we get the most valuable and honest information from. We would be a better forum if you would come and enlighten us with your wisdom and experiences. Hope to hear from you again soon. I know I want to learn more about these dogs.

Well, I'm 48 so not everyone is YOUNG. And I'm very interested in what old hands with the breed have to say because they have PERSPECTIVE that you just can't have when your young.

One of my favorite posters is Texas Pitdogs for just that reason. So I hope you stick around and share some of your experence with us.
