Grimes is charged with stealing Jake, a 19-year-old German shepherd-black labrador mix. She says she took the dog off his chain and to the veterinarian to keep him from dying.

Jake was taken to a vet after a neighbor saw him lying on the ground, not moving for three days, Grimes said.

“You cannot leave a dog to die for three days. It’s not ethically right. Any area representative not on board with this should not be with us,” Grimes said.

Jake’s owners, who deny any abuse, aren’t charged with a crime. Freedom Township police and the Central Pennsylvania Humane Society say they have no evidence of Jake’s abuse and have been rebuffed in efforts to see the dog to examine the claims.

Grimes won’t reveal the whereabouts of the dog she calls Doogie but says he is doing better and was seen by another vet.

Utah-based Best Friends Animal Society says it will support the effort to have the criminal charges dismissed, according to a written statement. The society also says it will work with Blair County government on legislation to allow concerned residents to intervene in cruelty to animals cases without repercussions.

I saw that earlier today and urged others to contact the paper in support of you and your decision.

One thing is for sure Grimes overstepped the boundry. The fact that that dog a large breed at that has lived 19 years is past his life expectancy to begin with by 5-7 years. To have lived that long requires care. I would hang the bitch. What does she expect a dog of that age to do in the yard turn summersults. It is about dead as is. Damn dog is 133 years old. That is like a friggen miracle to begin with. Not alone expecting him to be very active if at all. She needs to take that dog to its home to finish out its last few months or so. So it can die at home with its rightful family. I would like to come down ther and kick her ass for taking that dog. Maybe some one can point her out while I am down there in the morning.

I've saw this earlier also... Tammy also has a few videos on Youtube with a plea for help with the dog and court costs... I'm surprised that the owners weren't convicted of some sort of animal cruelty. How are you holding up?

Animal cruelty what do you mean that dog is old. They get very thin at that age. It is a wonder it is that old. I have never heard of a German Shepherd living that long. 16 is old. Mine died at 16 and the vet said that he lived longer than what is expected for a large breed of his size.

Here is the website with the photos and videos on it... I'm not agreeing with either side because I can see the POINT on both sides.... The dog looks old, but it doesn't look 19, and yes, it is practically unheard of for a large breed to live to 19. The dog looks neglected though, but that's for everyone to have their own opinion on...

Here is a little ditty about Animal Rights I received and my response:

With respect for your point of view I would but ask that you consider these words...

How is Animal Rights Related to Human Rights?

Since the beginning of recorded history, humans have tried to maintain their dominance over others. As humanity began to grow intellectually and socially, it became apparent that many feeling beings were being discriminated against -- that is, having rights taken away from them -- because of the class to which they belonged. Though today there is still prejudice, it is less widespread among many groups of people; for example, it has become a positive value in our culture to be against racism and sexism.

An amazing aspect of prejudice is that most of us cannot relate to it until it affects us on a personal level -- which in many cases is too late to stop the perpetrators from continuing. There is a saying which reflects this sentiment:

When they came for the socialists, I didn't do
anything, for I wasn't a socialist.

When they came for the Gypsies, I didn't do
anything for I wasn't a Gypsy.

When they came for the Jews, I didn't do
anything for I wasn't a Jew.

When they came for me, there wasn't anyone
left to do anything for me.
In order to help ourselves, we must learn to protect both other humans and non-human animals. How does humanity intend to solve differences among its own species when it cannot learn to make peace with the other animals on earth? Humans need to start thinking and living in terms of co-existence, as opposed to dominance. You certainly do not have to love your neighbors, but you should be able to get along with them. Peace begins with the individuals who make a conscious effort to go through life making the least negative impact possible.

When they came for the Pit Bull, animal rights activists and government officials united.
They said "What a dispicable creature. He and his kind shall be destroyed.
Do not adopt him to anyone. Do not allow him in your cities.
Kill him by the thousands, everyday. Do not bother regulating these horrible backyard breeders, for we enjoy taking a family's Pit Bull and seeing the children cry."

How can I protect my American Pit Bull Terrier when animal rights activists want to see him euthanized, as well as the government? Talk about a 1% er. Who loves my Pit Bull? Nobody it seems but me, and the few of us who are responsible owners.

I would have loved to have been there when Jake was discovered. Trust me. I would have made quite the stink, but nobody would have ever been able to accuse me of "dog napping". I would have asked those owners so many questions, and demanded answers. But I do NO animal any good while I am in jail. Something to think about.
Civil disobedience paves the way for violent fronts like Animal Liberation Front, who may just kill one of our loved ones one day with their university bombings. Something else to think about.

Animal welfare is a wonderful effort. It is MY effort. Research the National Animal Interest Alliance if you care to, read some of the quotes from AR radicals and make your own decision.

Dogs get old and they die, so do people. Its life. Had to put my 15 year old German Shepherd down last week. His last year was tuff. He looked terrible felt even worst. The meds kept him alive but it would have been more humane to have put him down a year ago.
My friend, a social service worker for the elderly enlightened me to the status of elderly human beings in America. Human beings may go days or weeks without human companionship. Many have out lived their family members and are alone, poor, and sick.
It seems to me that the animal rights folks need to priortize a little and put their passion to right the wrongs of the world to work for something a little more important. There are more important causes in life than worring about a dog on a chain.

When I heard that the dog was 19 I flipped out. That woman is NUTS. And cruel to boot. The poor dog is not seperated from the only family its ever known thanks to her. She stole thats dogs right to die in the company of the people its known all its long long life.
