I wanted to know if anyone in the pit bull commuity knows where I could get a whelping box from. Also if possible if someone has the instructions on how to build a whelping box that would be good also.

depends on how big your dog is and how much room you have to give the dog that day and several days previous to the due date...its not really hard to do
if your not handy .... so many available .. how big a dog you got and what are the circumstances you plan to have this dog deliver

FOR ABOUT 25 BUCKS, YOU CAN GET 2 SHEETS (4'X8') OF 1/2" THICK PARTICLE BOARD (CHEAPER). CUT THEM IN HALF (LONG WAYS) SO YOU HAVE 4 PIECES, EACH MEASUREING 2'X8'. PUT THEM TOGETHER IN A SQUARE SO THAT YOU HAVE AN 8'X8' BOX THAT IS 2' HIGH. BE SURE TO TAKE SPECIAL CARE ON HOW YOU ATTATCH THE SIDES TO EACHOTHER, AS YOU DONT WANT ANYTHING SHARP, JAGGED, OR ANYTHING ELSE INSIDE OF THE BOX, WHERE THE PUPS CAN CUT THEMSELVES. WITH PARTICLE BOARD, YOU MAY WANT TO REINFORCE THE BOX WITH 2'X4's ON THE OUTSIDE-BOTTOM OF THE BOX. COUNTERSINK ALL NAILS/SCREWS AND IF YOU'RE HANDY ENOUGH, YOU CAN BUILD A HINGABLE DOOR SO THE MOTHER DOESN'T HAVE TO JUMP OVER THE 2 FOOT WALL. WITH SO MUCH SPACE, YOU CAN SECTION IT OFF TO GIVE THE MOTHER "HER SPACE" WHILE STILL BEING ABLE TO WATCH THE PUPS, AND YOU CAN FILL THE WHOLE AREA OR ONE SECTION WITH THE BEDDING OF YOUR CHOICE (RED CEDAR, ETC). ALSO, IF GOING WITH THIS LARGER DESIGN, AGAIN CONSIDER SECTIONING OFF FOR EFFICIENT HEATING PURPOSES. YOU CAN CLAMP A HEAT LAMP OR TWO DIRECTLY TO THE BOX, AND OF COURSE...THE SMALLER THE AREA, THE FASTER AND EASIER IT WILL BE TO HEAT THAT AREA AND KEEP IT AT THE PROPER TEMP. HOPE THIS HELPS. THERE ARE ALL KINDS OF DIFFERENT DESIGNS OR IDEAS FOR WHELPING AREAS. SOME PEOPLE JUST USE A ROUND PLASTIC KIDDY POOL. ITS ALL ABOUT WHAT YOU HAVE THE ROOM FOR AND WHAT ENVIRONMENT YOU WANT FOR YOUR SOON TO BE MOTHER.

If your in a pinch, you can use a kiddie pool for your bitch to welp. As the pups get older you can take another kiddie pool cut the bottom out and place on top of origanal pool and secure....Easy to clean easy to move around. I only recomend this if bitch is welping in the house and is not distructive.

Good luck.

well i usually build mine around 3'x4'x12' first get ya some 1x12 pine lumber and make a box 3''x4'' then get some 5/8'' plywood thats gonna be your floor and nail that in place. then get 2''x4''s and cut them to fit the inside dimensions and apply them to the edge and screw them to the inside about 4'' up from the floor all the way around the inside of the box.this give you the bumper that keeps the dam from rolling onto the new pups, trust me they learn fast to crawl under that bumper and you have got to have it in your whelping box.then what i do is i get me a card table and put it over the whelping box after the pups are born and i put a sheet or a blanket over it and it keeps out any drafts so the pups dont get a chill.i use newspaper when the dam is giving birth then once they are all delivered i use towles as a base then i get some of that fake fur,i use fake fur because it is comfortable for the pups and the mother, plus i can wash it real easy and the pups can crawl around a lot easier with out doing the splits.then just keep the room where they are at nice and warm and draft free and you should be fine.you can get you a little heating pad if you want and put it at one end of the box,but thats up to you.

I build them 3'wide,about 28"tall, and 8' long, thereabouts. I build a house with a 4" lip around the bottom, aobut 4" off the floor of a 4'X3' dog box, to keep mama from suishing pups, and then I have the entrance to the box, the bottom of it high enough off the ground that too young a pup wont be able to stumble out, then I have about a 5' "porch" that mam can get away from babies and do her business. I is coved in hog panel, covered in fencing again, and the dog box has a removable lid. All on 2 1/2' legs off the ground. I will take some pics and put them in my gallery tomorrow as I am still kinda weak to do it today. I am making one allittle bigger with some scrap metal I got from the mill I believe will be a better welping pen than this one. If you was to pm me w/you email addy, I already have detailed instruction how to make one I would be glad to send you. Or, you can buy a kit fromT.E. Scott,INC. If I had the cash, I'd buy one from them, but just kinda improvised my own, you know how us country boys are!!
