Excuse the newbie questions.. but humor me. I am curious if it is possible over a period of time of breedings... is it possible to "tighten up" a bloodline.. for example my female is Jeep/scatterbred kinda sorta... if she is determined to be of a breeding quality could she be bred with a dog that is tight jeep or heavier jeep than her and therefore her pups would be tighter in the jeep line.. then if you breed a bitch puppy back to the sire would it therefore tighten up over time?
Also.. how is it bloodlines get started? What keeps every Tom, Dick and byb from starting their own lines?

Yes you can breed back to tighten a line. If that is your wish.
Bloodlines get started by developing the line into a standard for that line based off of a quality you desire out of that line. What stops most from developing lines is that they don't have a schedule, plan, goal and lack the education to do so. You have to develop a dog that people desire and that prove's itself as worthy to reproduce itself. And produce generations of top quality dogs. Another thing that hinders many is that very point having generations of dogs related that are top quality producers. Not the everyday run of the mill dogs. Back in the day families kept their own records and peds were protected like gold they had their own family lines. Some of us still keep them a secret. I suspect soon more will again as organizations continue to sell their members out and not back them in time of need. Which brings rise to what is the purpose of registering a dog if that registration isn't going to be of use if you need it? As an organization some fail.

It also takes a long time to turn a kennel of dogs into an actual, consistently-producing bloodline. Some would say it takes a lifetime or better. That's why when folks talk about Gottiline or some other bloodline based on a kennel that's only been around 5-10 years or less, I always say that's not a true bloodline yet. If the dogs are not consistently reproducing themselves or something very similar, its not a bloodline yet.
