So my wife mentioned to me tonight before bed that she might be interested in possibly trying to show a dog. Just curious what are some examples of good standard showing bloodlines? And how do you go about training a dog for show?

With ADBA dogs, I'd just look for parents with good comformation, but from game lines. For AkC/UKC dogs, Larsan, Whiterock and Matrix are my favorites.

It gets very confusing here. It depends on what showing you want to do.. Ukc are pit bulls, AKC are amstaffs. In the Ukc show ring, you are showing against Amstaffs. Since the Amstaffs are dual akc/ukc registered. Most of the bull dogs in the ukc rings are amstaffs where I am from. It would seem that it is hard to show ukc and adba because the conditioning for each registry is different. Adba wants them lean and based on "pit Ready" condition. They think the ukc dogs are overdone.
Personally, I like something in between. My dogs don't look like little piggies stumbling around the ring, but they are etheopian looking either. So far, they don't place well at the adba shows, but do okay at.
ukc shows.
What I would advise you to do is more research. You and your wife need to go to the different show venues and look at what each offers and see what direction you want to go in. If you are in North Carolina, Hickory has Adba, Ukc and Aadr shows at the fairgrounds there coming up sometime in November this year. It may be before then. You need to look on the events calander for each registry.
Be careful buying any pups. The ones crossed with Amstaff seem to have more health problems. Just make sure your breeder knows what he is doing. Get references, go to his kennel. We drove to get ours so we could see temperments on the parents. People will tell you anything to make a dollar.
If you have anymore questions, pm me. We are still learning ourselves. I am getting ready to breed one of my 3 year old females for the purpose of getting 2 pups to show myself.
We love showing. We did not originally get into this to show. Like yourselves, it came later and we are hooked.

So how do you go about deciding which ones to breed...you just look at them and their temperment and say thats the 2...That blows my mind....making more dogs in the world just to have "Show Bred" dogs....I dont understand it, if people have a genuine interest in showing dogs then why not get one bred for show in the first place? Like a beagle or other Terrier...Can you explain that bred for "Show" theory and help me make sense of why all the people who show dogs feel ok admitting they breed for their APBTs for "Looks" I am really confused and actually in disbelief its that common..

What registry do you want to show under? There are some dogs that do well in both UKC and ADBA, and others that are pretty much exlusive to one or the other. I've got some of my favorite breeders bookmarked, and I can send them to you if you want. Just PM me.
ETA: Here's a site with information about training a dog for the show ring. Its less involved in the ADBA ring, but I personally like training my dog to stack and gait anyway. Its easier to take a UKC-trained dog into the ADBA ring and let them act naturally, than to take an ADBA-trained dog into the UKC ring and expect them to know how to behave. Plus, it makes it easier for the judge to evaluate your dog's conformation if they're standing still, and if they know how to gait.
