I posted a question on here yesterday about Black Gold dog food.. but I can't find it. I currently feed my two Diamond Lamb and rice and they are okay on it.. going through 40lbs in alittle over a month give or take.. and I also feed alittle raw too.. but its more of a treat than a main food. My brother in law has a pack of hound dogs.. mainly coonhounds and foxhounds, and he hunts them. He feeds Black Gold and drives about 2 hours to the nearest place that sells it and buys it 120 bags at a time. He loves it and was talking to me about it the other day and said he used to feed Diamond but stop after that whole recall issue.. Do any of ya'll feed or know anything about Black Gold?

Crap...your freaking crazy... What the F is wrong with you... mix it with some mayo and a little shredded sharp chedder and crushed up Ritz and the Seagulls along the Mississippi will remember your car for ever and follow you home for more...its good to catch cat fish on too but make sure you get it out of their belly before you eat the fish it might make you sick....

My dogs do GREAT on this stuff and been feeing it for about a year now. I say stick to the Diamond Lamb & Rice. But i met a guy the other day that feeds black gold and he loves it and his dogs look great. And you cant really beat the price for it 34$ for 2 50 pound bags. I never tried it but i plan on it in the future with the more dogs i get.

Interesting.. two ends of the spectrum. My brother in law's dog's look awesome. He's got 5 coonhounds and 4 foxhounds (all grand champion something or anothers..) and some mutant indoor pug/chihuahua/boston terrier called butt trap..and he eats it too.. he buys something like 120 bags at a time.. whatever is on a full pallet.

I fed Diamond until I almost lost a couple of dogs to it a few years before the aflatoxin scare ever came out. In fact, if you remember seeing me at the 2004 ADBA Nationals you'll remember me griping about it and what I thought about Diamond, my foot, and where they could put it!!! GGEEERRRRR! I talked to alot of people about what and why they were feeding, finially after talking to CD at Eppinette Kennels I started feeding Black Gold, the 26/18 Performance Blend, I love it! What else can I say. Now I've started using the Ultimate Performance 31/21, and Trainer’s Blend 24/12. The Trainer's Blend is basically the same feed as the Black Gold 26/18 Performance Blend except it cuts down on the protein and fat for a not so active dog, the hot weather, or in the off season. I also feed raw, so kibble isn't the "main" source of feed for my dogs.

Black Gold is supposed to come out with a corn free food. It should already be out though. I've heard great things about the food. I've personally never tried it, but am looking into it. There's nothing wrong with Diamond. They make a decent food. Just looking at the ingredients, Black Gold and Diamond are about the same. The Diamond Naturals line is good for the money and it doesn't have corn, by-product, or wheat in it. Don't let that aflatoxin scare you. They're not the only company it has happened to. But they are the most recent so it's still fresh in everybody's mind. And I think it was only 1 plant that had the problem.

My opinion on Diamond wasn't, and isn't based on the aflatoxin scare. Like I said in my previous post, "I fed Diamond until I almost lost a couple of dogs to it a few years before the aflatoxin scare ever came out". Up until then I swore by it but overnight it changed. I went ape chit trying to figure out what it was. My dogs started getting sick, looked like chit, and a few almost died! Thank God one of my best friends is also a vet. When I changed, so did a lot of people I know who were going thru some of the same b/s I was, and guess what... when they got their dogs off of the diamond, all their dogs got better. Coincident? NOT! People can trust Diamond all they want to, but as for me... I value my dogs a whole lot more than that. Another reason, I have a good friend who works for the Diamond manufacturing plant in Gaston SC, and after what he's told me I wouldn't feed Diamond to maggot. I'm not trying to make this a Diamond v/s Black Gold post, I just have my opinions on both and wanted to share so others can make their own. I'm also not just PRO Black Gold. I like the way my dogs do on it but I also have a few I feed differently because each dog is different, and some do better on one thing, and some do better on another.

A buddy of mine feeds Tracker. His dogs look great and he swears by it. I recently went and picked up a bitch (2 months ago) we co-own from his yard. I feed her Black Gold, and she looks exactly the same now as the day I picked her up. Shoot... I'd give Tracker a try but there’s nowhere local to get it.

WWII, here a link to the corn free black gold you were talking about. I haven't tried it yet but have a friend who has, and says he likes the results. (http://www.blackgolddogfood.com/cornfree.htm)http://www.blackgolddogfood.com/cornfree.htm

NcPrisonGuard, All I can say is do what I did. Do the research, and ask around (ALOT) and then make your own decision on what you think is best for your dogs. Whatever you decide, best of luck to you!

I found that link the other day on their site. Do you know what the ingredients are on the food, and all that good stuff? Everytime I click on a link it takes me to their email.

I have fed Black Gold in the past as well as most of the other brands out there. BG is not bad feed for the money. Sam's sells a pretty good feed for the money called exceed. Its possible to feed a raw diet for less money than some of the over priced super preminum rations.
