View Full Version : Watchdog
Just wondering if anyone knows if the Watchdog blood throws a high % of man-biters? And please no assumptions based on the name only. If you don't have actual first hand knowledge, it doesn't really help me. Thank you.

I have a friend with a heavy Watchdog bitch. She is a little more people aggressive than most. I mean she is good with the family and kids. But she seems to have more defense drive than most pits. She really reminds me more of American Bulldog temperment wise. I really think she would bite someone if she felt there was a threat. This is the only one I have seen so take it for what it is.

well my watchdog bitch is actually really laid back and doesnt move a whole lot lol. she is the friendliest dog i have on my yard, i know every dog is different but if i had to pick one out of my yard for a pet she would be it. theres my experiences with the watchdog line, hope this helps. she is non human or dog aggressive.
I had a double bred granddaughter of Watchdog's Blu Glory. She was a great dog, real friendly until she thought there was a threat. If she thought you were going to harm her momma or daddy, all bets were off. Her daughter was the same way.
I wouldn't call them man-biters outright, but they will defend their family.

I got 2 watchdog females, still pups, but already I see them more...protective orf the territory than the others, they are 5 months old now. I walked around the barn one day and didnt say anything and they heard me and went off!! Once they saw it was me, they went back to their old selves, wanting me to come and spend the day with them. One of them in particular I like allot. I'll probably let the other one go to someone.

My watchdog boy is pretty portective and apparently a little more gaurdian instinctive that what is expected of an apbt, but he's great with people after he's been assured they're ok.

From my experience, they do tend to be a little more people agressive, they also don't seem to like children. They also tend to eat pups more, too
I wouldn't say they're more people aggressive. That gives the impression that they're ill-tempered. In my experience WD dogs simply have more guardian instinct than most APBTs. Many lines of APBTs will stand by & watch you get mugged. Most WD dogs will NOT do that. They will defend you & if that means biting a threatening person, they will have no qualms about doing it. But in day-to-day activities I have not found the dogs to be any more people aggressive than any other line. If they see a stanger in the yard, they'll bark, but so have the game bred dogs on just about every yard I've been on. The only difference is from game bred dogs is WD dogs won't just bark. They'll actually defend you if you need it & if that means biting the person they will.
I did have a WD bitch that was a terrible puppy-killer though. Didn't eat 'em, just killed 'em. I culled her.

Same experiences as above.
I loved my WD bred dogs ( I mean the REAL WD bred stuff, not the junk you see today). Wish I could have kept them, but after we lost our best bitch to cancer we dropped it. Dogs from that line we knew usually passed before their time from cancer, so we decided not to get any more of that blood. Plus, those critters were so big & strong if they tied up I couldn't get them parted by myself, so we dropped the big dogs. Now if it's over 50 lbs c.w. we don't keep it.

Started as larger than standard dogs being bred for hog catching. Ended up like those english bulldog looking things with no legs and basketball heads.

The Watchdog line got its name from its breeder Casey Couturier RIP whose nickname was "Watchdog" hence the name of his line of dogs. They were not always the bull-jive we see today. They were once working hog dogs not dogs who look like hogs.

Were they mainly a midwest line?

The were based off of arkansas and the chaos and hughzee guys were/are in illinois.
CC lived in Arkansas, but when he got out of APBTs Frank Hughes from Chaos Knls of IL. bought up most of his stuff. That was it was the beginning of the end for the WD line.

watchdog used to be a good dog back when they were hog dogs. But since so many dumbass idtiots wanna make them big blue monsters and keep breeding them to be bigger it just ruined.
as I said before my male watchdog is an awesome dog. He is also not MAN BITER nor has he tried to bite anyone he is actually not even worth being a guard dog cause he just sits there and smiles his goofy as smile. He would not eat a hog, cat, rabbit anything that is eatable UP!!! If he had more of an attention span I would love to hunt with him but he does not have a good recal at all he would just rip into like a toy lol
Again my boy is not what they used to be he is a bully.
