I've been on the Discovery site forums & getting into it with certain individuals there about this breed. Here's a question that was posted there; {Is the breed more prone than other breeds to go from loving to vicious in a heartbeat, or are the owners all lying or in complete denial that they ignor the warning signs?} These people there, like to think we don't care what happens when we hear of others who have been attacked, only for our dogs. http://community.discovery.com/groupee/forums -under 'Pet Talk'-click on 'Dog Talk'-topic 'Pitbull Controversy'. Hope you can understand this link info. Thanks for viewing.

these dogs are no more unpredictable then any other breed,,a working dog is more busy and needs to be kept busy,,trained right,,any dog will be a good dog,,have someone that lets the dog rule,,it will be unpredictable,,that goes for any breed

I wouldn't say they are unpredictable - the instances of pit bulls suddenly biting their owners is very low. Most pit bull bites take place in a prey drive situation that just gets out of control.
Tell them if they want unpredictable, let's talk Cockers or Chows!
lol.

of my two dogs, I'd have to say if either was going to bite a member of my family it would be Buke (short for Beukeboom-Jeff Beukeboom- NY Ranger) and only because he's getting old and we think may be losing his depth persception.
I was bitten by a dog when I was a toddler, it was by a very mean dog, and to this day I do not trust that breed of dogs, it was a poodle and then I got bit as a kid by a chihuahua. My oldest daughter got bit by a Lasa Apso (sp?). I strongly dislike small yip-yip dogs...those are the ones people should be scared of! ;)

I hear ya Hunter's Mommy. I was attacked by a Cocker for no reason. Didn't make me turn my back on dogs. I educated myself more on how to prevent it from happeneing again. My Sugar hates Poodles. The dog next door is one & they go at it from between the fence. The owner says, well Pits are dangerous. I told him, and what about your dog who sits at the fence all day & barks at my dogs. He just shut up & walked away. You can't win with me.

Something i got off the net
<FONT face=Arial>The Centers for Disease Control study dog bite incidents, including the types of dogs most likely to bite. The breeds that the CDC considers highest risk are pit bulls, Rottweilers, German shepherds, Huskies, Alaskan malamutes, Doberman pinschers, Chows, Great Danes, St. Bernards and Akitas.

The CDC complied that list using data from emergency rooms. If the bite doesn't send you to the ER it won't be recorded by the CDC. If they were to compile a list of ALL dog bites, I'm sure the Cocker & other yippers would dominate the list.
Down here its German Shepherds, last week the police had to put one to sleep for attacking its owner, and thats not the first one. Never heard of a Pitbull, that would be on the news!!!!!

well when i was a younger kid I was playing with this routrighler or however you spell the name. well anywheys I was just sitting there playing with the dog and for no reason at all This dog went for my throught. Luckely my dad and the dogs owner was standing right there and got the dog right off of me. If I was alone with the dog he would have killed me he left scares in my sholder. We still to this day do not understand why that dog atacked me. Well That is the only dog I am scared of mainly for that reason.

I believe that people make up stories about things they claim they saw or did and etc. . Just so they can have something to say and fit in with the rest of the bone heads. I have five. I have never been bit by one or felt threatened by one. I have been bitten before by a poodle (great grandma's) rotten little things she had two and I would have to hold the leases out away from me because they were so mean I hated those dogs but you can't say no to old ladies who make the best cookies even if they do own rotten little bastardly dogs, a black lab (don't know who's) while riding a bike as a kid, dalmation (grandpas my fault I got too close to the pups) I could have never told grandpa as he would have put her down, and a black and tan coon hound that tried to jump a fence and got his back legs hung in it and broke it over backwards serious pain and I tried to help him off the fence he got me several times but I finally got him free only for him to die soon after. it was at night and I couldn't see how bad it was at first. The owner just stood and watched I wont speak to that gutless worm yet today and it has been 8 years. Poor dog. I tell you them dogs can bite realy dang hard and it takes a bunch of thinking about something else to get past it to try to help it. Back to the point. I have been around many pure breed pit bulls and I have not yet seen one that even so much as remotely acted like it would bite. As an adult I have been bit twice once with the coon hound and once by a nieghbors dog that I caught killing my quail. I thought about shooting the dog first but I felt remorse over it and took it home and confronted the owner over it. I was as mad as a one legged donkey in an ass kicking contest. I wonder if there have even been accurate studies of dog bites I know them little dogs like to do it more than big dogs. I just steer clear of the nippy little demons. One dude down the road has a Datsh Hund English ah datshound??? weiner dog any way he likes to try to bite hands. He was a sweet puppy though but now I wont touch him he even bites his owners so I believe he would bite me as well. So I would guess is bust them out on it. Call them to the middle and tell them prove it. That they said she said he said crap doen't cut the mouse turds.

have to go with ABK,,, i,ve had them many many years and been bit once,,, stuck my hand between 2 of mine, trying to get them apart and quickly figured out why a break stick was common to have around...

Sounds right, break sticks do come in handy. Learned about that just recently.

Personal experience. When I was six and walking to school a Cocker Spaniel jumped out of it's fenced yard...gate left open...and bit me on the ankle. Did not even break the skin. Then it ran back into it's yard. This little Cocker had been teased many many times by other schoolkids who walked by(mostly little boys).
After that I checked the gate before I walked by...don't blame the poor little dog. It had been teased and had good reason to dislike kids. Stupid owners should not have let it be teased...

One of the dogs bit my hand by accident. But as soon as I squalled (Yes, I admit it - I squalled!) & he knew it was me & not the other dog he had he let go.
Real vicious eh? lol.

i dont think its how likley a dog is to bite i think its the potential damage when a dog does bite e.g A cocker bites a man in the leg then a pitbull bites a man in the leg which dog has the potential to cause more damage the pitbull obviously but still cockers are more prone to attack than my beloved breed

That's right, it's not the size of the dog that bites ....but the bite in the dog.
As we all know APBT makes for a good headline, wether it is acurate reporting or not....it sells.

I was attacked viciously by two labs when I was a kid. I still have scars. My neighbors GSD attacked me last summer. Today I was bit at work by a Shiba Inu.
