I'm wondering if anyone has seen the Off The Chain DVD, its a documentary on the history of dog fighting in the US, I have it and would like to get some opinions on what others think

Ignorant people spreading more ignorance to simple minded sheep. This is a HSUS / PETA dream come true. They got an idiot on camera validating their bogus arguements. This DVD isn't worth the $.29 media it was printed on. You would be better off spending the money on a good book like "Dogs of Velvet and Steel" by Stephens or "The Complete Gamedog" by Ed Faron. Stratton's books are great for super newbies but overall he isn't a dogman and has lots of erronious and misrepresented information.

It was given to us not long ago. I elected not to watch it after I was told a few things about it. My husband was sick at some of the stuff. The thugs have taken over and this is what we get. The old days are gone and dead because of the thugs who value nothing but the dollar and could care less about an animal. They are about as far away from the "gentleman of yesterday" as I am to being Miss Universe.

I am from the urbin area and i and a few of my friends love these dogs and hate to see the breed depicted as it was on that film.

I think they basically found the most thuggish example of a dogfighter they could to prove their worst fears true. I have never heard of the sharpening of teeth method shown in the movie and the guy was also clearly training his dog out of a tiny apartment, which was kind of funny. I doubt that they even used real dog people, but it's possible.

My dumb ass brother bought the video at a bootleg store somewhere. I decided to see what it was about. I was glad the entire video was not just dog fighting. It had a little history, but all together it not a good video. People buying the video are just putting the gun in the enemy's hands. It helping fund these people! The worst part on the video is when they electrocute the cur dog. Its dishearting and left a cold feeling in my chest. Just plain sad! Its not like the respectable game that the dogmen once played it has been curropted by thugs and now its a completely different game. Its sickning.

That movie is so bad it is at Wal-Mart in the 99 cent DVD bin....I saw it when it first came out and even my black friends who were here watching with me pointed out how the guys gave the dogs a bad name by acting unprofessional.....I threw it away...I couldnt be a good dogman if I let someone else watch it...

It actually made my wife cry. It was quite possibly the worst depiction, in a negative way, of pits and their owners ever. I can sum this movie up with one word, "deplorable."

It pretty much just showed the worst possible scenarios when it came to dogs getting injured and if the fights that those dogs came from were done professionally then there is no way some of them could have ended up with those wounds. All "real dogmen" i'm sure were offended by those lame excuses of dogmen. just my $.02

The thing with that is it's painfull for the dog afterwards and it exposes the inner tooth which later leads to tooth decay, breakage, and ultimately losing the tooth.

Truthfully when I posted it wasn't meant to stir up any conflict. I was just pointing out my opinion, and stating that in my mind it was not the best thing to do regarding the dog. So I hope no hard feelings are taken.

As for the advantage. I would focus more on making sure I'm working with the right dog. No matter be it conformation, weight pull or other venue, choosing the right one is key. Also proper and superior conditioning, combined with training is another key aspect to having an advantage. ;) . JMO.

As far as exposing the nerve of the tooth, I guess it depends on how much he took them down.

Dont get me wrong, when I saw him do that my stomach turned. I would never attempt that. I just thought to myself when I saw that "How many people really do this?" probaly WAYYYYY to many after seeing the video.

I did have to give him some credit for doing everything in his power to win. I dont look at what he did as cheating.

it is cheating in a way,but it is more that he is competeing with a inadedquate dog.and as everyone knows when you have a inferiour animal you have to resort to desperate tatics to try and just compete never mind winning.everything you seen in that movie was to compensate for something that the animal was lacking they were competeing with inferiour byb dogs and trying to make them out like they were GR.CH. just a awful movie with awful depictions of what a dogman is and how he cares for his dogs.

I wouldnt waste my money on off the chain though. Its propaganda and made by the HSUS. They are not a friend of this breed.
