I am asking if anybody has any ideas or suggestions for a desperate situation. Here it is.
I work at an animal sanctuary that specializes in pit bull rescue. On Saturday my work caught on fire. All of the dogs had to be evacuated and they could not go back into the house due to severe damage. So 4 of the employess (including myself) came up with emergency housing. I have 8 dogs living in my garage, one girl has 20 in her barn, the other two (mother and son) took 3 into their home with their 11 dogs. The rest of the dogs were put into foster homes. Many of the dogs are shelties, and everybody is stepping up wanting shleties. Its the pit bulls that need a place though. The places where the dogs are cannot be permanent by any means, so we are wracking our brains trying to get them placed, but nobody wants pit bulls. All of this is made harder by Bill 132, the pit bull ban in ontario. There were originally 46 dogs, about 10 have been placed into temporary foster homes. Nobody placed has been pit bulls. Out of all the animals, we only lost 2 dogs and 4 cats. One of the dogs was a pit bull puppy :(
Does anybody have any ideas/suggestions/opinions on this matter? We have done pretty good about food donations and such, and the dogs are safe for now, but cannot stay where they are.
ANy input would be appreciated, and if I take a while to reply, it is because ontop of all of this I moved on sunday and since I'm out of a job right now I had to cancel my internet connection. Irg, its been a week.
