Why does the UKC pin ribbons on some of those RE crosses that are way too fat, 18 inches tall and weigh well over 100lbs??? It's not even close to being in their standard and the dogs don't even look like APBT's. What gives???

fair enough... money makes the world go round and all that.. But aren't they supposed to protect the breeds and hold them true to form???? And why wouldn't they just change the standard and the name of the breed???

Hello, all, I am new to here, and maybe this is not a good way to start out, lol but,, The judges have to pick the "best" dog in the group, and if they are all RE, hippo's, then the "best" hippo must win...

P.S. Great site !

Blaming the UKC is not really productive, IMO. They don't write the breed standards. If the parent club would take a stand on the humongo dogs and write it into the standard, the UKC would have to listen. (And then some folks would complain anyway because the APBTs aren't supposed to have a weight limit. Diversity and all that... yada yada...)

But the UKC can't just start imposing their own rules to clean up the breed. Maybe its different in the ADBA because they only register one breed -- and Whopper dogs (oops) -- but the UKC is a registry like most others. They don't make the standards. The breed's parent club does. And if you don't like what they're doing, please feel free to join the NAPBTA and start campaigning for a standard change. That club needs some new blood, IMO.

ETA: I've only been to one show where a 90+ dog was competing, and he didn't win any placements.

A CLASS AND A BREED ARE DIFFERENT. THEY SHOULD BE RECOGNIZED AS THEIR OWN BREED, OR CALLED MUTTS...EITHER ONE WOULD FIT THE BILL.

Not all razor's edge dogs are 100 lb mutts, i know of 40-50 lb razor's edge dogs that were not bred for color that are correct conformation and great weight pull dogs

YOU CANNOT SAY THAT THE A RE DOG WAS NOT BRED FOR COLOR. WHAT WERE THEY BRED FOR THAN. DAMN SURE NOT GAMENESS, ATHLETICISM, ABILITY, ETC. THEY WERE BRED FOR THE PURPOSE OF LOOKS, WHICH CAN ONLY INCLUDE PHYSICAL CONFORMATION AND COLOR. EITHER WAY, BRED FOR LOOKS. I CAN SHOW YOU AN 80 LB GAME DOG FASTER THAN YOU CAN SHOW ME A 40 LB RAZORS EDGE. ARE THEY OUT THERE....YES. BUT THE SMALLEST RE DOGS ARE GONNA BE THE ONES BEING BRED BY THE KENNELS WHO ACTUALLY CALL THEM WHAT THEY ARE CLOSEST TO BEING....AM STAFFS. IM TAKLIN ABOUT PEOPLE LIKE MASSIES KENNELS. THEY ARE GETTING INTO THE RE STUFF, AND CROSSING IT WITH THEIR STANDING SHOWLINES. NOT MY CUP OF TEA, BUT ITS MAKING SMALLER, RE-LOOKING LITTLE STAFFS.

I shouldn't have said RE dogs, but rather all those lines that are too big, too blocky, too short and too fat!
