Let me tell you, my vet bill has been extremely high the past few weeks.
First my male Pit came down with a dry hacking cough. Thought he had kennel cough (but never been kenneled) at first, then he started limping. My vet checked him for Blastomycosis. His test came back positive. We are treated this disease really aggressively with 4 pills a day. My male is doing much better but he has to take these pills for the next 4-6 months. Within the next 10 days, he will be able to take only 2 pills a day.
My female pup (5 months) started w/ the dry hacking cough too. I'm thinking she's coming down w/ blastomycosis too. The doctor tells me pups seldom get this disease but if they do, it progresses rapidly. She was showing no signs, no fever, sores, swollen lymphnodes, etc. Her breathing was strange, she got tired really easily just from walking. My 'motherly' instincts kicked in & took her back to the doctor this morning. The vet Xrayed her. Her intestines are inside of her chest cavity. She's only got one good lung. They will have to go inside and pull her intestines back down where they are suppose to be which will open up her left side. The vet has actually seen this before in a Doberman. He operated on him with success and the dog is doing fine. I had to leave her there this morning. The vet thinks there is probably a hole in her diaphram, which is how the intestines are getting into her chest cavity.
Anybody else ever heard of either of these two problems?
