I found this amazing,

1-that there was no pit bull identified in the attack

and

2-that it was actually in the paper because it had nothing to do with pit bulls.

So much for the banning of pit bulls in Ontario making it safer.

Probably the reason why it was in the paper is because the owner of the dog who got attacked must belong to some kind of PETA HUSUS or other organiztions that have some pull or power to make the news public. There are alot of dog attacks every year that go unreported or are kept out of public view.

So does this mean all dogs "smaller than a German sheppard" and "Larger than a German Sheppard" (the descriptions they gave for the dogs in the article) are to be banned too?

A couple of years ago I was walking my two dogs (a German Shepard rescue and a 112 pound Lab cross rescue) down my street, leashed, when an older Golden Retreiver type dog ran out into the street and attacked them.(The dog had menaced us before, barking, but had not leapt out of his yard and I had asked the owner to keep his dog in). The "owner" ran out and got his dog. I managed to hold onto both of mine (combined weight over 200 pounds) and drag them home. The next day the Golden retreiver was still running loose on the street. I couldn't go out in my front yard with my dogs without the Golden running down to attack. I called animal control and they wanted to mail me a form to fill out and they would "get around" to talking to the dogs owner. I called the mayor's office and demanded immediate action. Twenty minutes later the animal control appeared with the "form", I filled it out detailing the dog attacks also the fact that I had asked the owner to contain his dog and they went off to talk to him. A month later I received a subpoena to appear in court to testify against this guy.
When I showed up I had to sit around in court for 3 hours and then I testified against the guy for not controlling his dog. Was he there? NO!. The court fined him $160 and I never saw the dog again. Whether he paid the fine I do not know. What happened to the dog I do not know. It disappeared after I called animal control.
So...this is what happens when you try to be responsible. I have a low opinion of animal control in my town. one has to go over their heads to get them to get off their "fat a**es and do anything. I felt sorry for the dog that attacked mine.
I got knocked down in the street during the fight. After the man grabbed his dog and dragged it inside, some of the neighbors told me the Golden had growled at their children. That is why I pursued the case to court to get a potentially dangerous dog off the street.
If animal control won't do the job...it's up to the citizens to insist that they do.
I hope the lady with the Belgian Shepard follows through.
Of course my "neighbor" now gives me dirty looks whenever he sees me, but I know the neighborhood children are safe.
This has nothing to do with PETA or the HSUS, this has to do with the incompetence, unwillingness, or underfundedness and overworkedness of animal control officers.
Ordinary citizens have to put some effort into educating the general public and spend some of their precious time protecting neighborhood children if the parents are too ignorant and lazy to do so. That's just the way it is unfortunately...
