I have a 1 1/2 year old female pit bull and I want to get into weight pull with her. I don't want to compete in any competitions, unless it's with friends or something like that. Is it too late to start training her for it? What should I start with in training her?

shows are a good way to get out and meet people, learn new training methods, buy bulldog gear and to get them out in the public in a positive light. its not so bad to support a local dog club either., god knows we need more positive things around these dogs and the clubs need the support.......

besides, you will be fooling yourself and not wont be getting a good idea of the quality of your animals. you cant go into the same comp ( friends) over and over and expect to improve your animals or even know what they are truly capable of. you might think your dogs are the best when i fact they would get run over at a sanctioned weight pull. it also seems like a big waste of time to train a dog for this activity and not be competing for that trophy or ribbon.

Don't dogs have to be registered to compete?

Depends. IWPA, APA, UPF are all-breed pulling clubs. UKC has an LP program for spayed/neutered otherwise unregisterable dogs to compete. ADBA only allows registered, intact dogs to compete. (grumble)

I Am A Fan Of Richard F. Stratton The Author Of " The World Of The American Pit Bull Terrier". Sorry This Is Off Subject But I Didnt Know Where Else To Post. Has Anyone Else Here Read Any Books By This Person?? If Not I Would Recommend His Books To Any Apbt Fan Young Or Old. His Books Turned Me On To This Amazing Breed And Cleared All Misconceptions I Had. Thank You.
