Now we all hear the stories on the news about pit bull attacks. Now what my question is how many are true pit bull attacks and of the ones that are true pit bull attacks why. I have never known a pit that was human aggressive. I have always thought that dogmen put human aggresive dog down. So where is it all coming from?

Its coming from mostly the BYBs that are breeding for money and not temperament and stable dog's, and the irresponsible owners of the breed, I'm sure more will respond to this, these are the top two that come to mind though IMO ;)

Good point Marty, I purchased my dog from a true dogmen and all his dogs were touchable, I have a buddy that breeds those 85-95 pound curs and the majority of his dogs will bite you, he even has a dog that snapped at his son and this is a plus for him, sad were the breed is headed but like everything else that becomes a trend maybe this will fade away.

i think the dog will not attack a person unless it itself feels a threat or is provoked...other cases that a dog attack a human trying to rob a house then thats his or hers fault the dog is only doing its job

A lot of the attacks that are blamed on the "pit bull" were not actually done by a game bred pit bull. There is a lot of missidentification going on and then the media grabs the story and off they go, a german shepherd turns into a pit bull, a rottie turns into a pit bull and so on and so on. Especially with unidentified mixed breeds. The majority of professional animal care people can not identify a pure bred pitbull. I don't know how anyone can without the pedigree to show it.

If you look at the statistics that are actually truthfully recorded, the pit bull is the least of our worries. Golden's, Lab's, Shepherd's and a lot of the smaller breeds are a higher risk. But they don't make headline's.

Add the back yard breeders who will sell anything for money, and you now have someone who is NOT culling human aggression out of their stock because they don't care. It's all about the almighty dollar to them, not good breeding practices.

i am liking what i am hearing. This is a question that every person that owns a apbt should be able to answer. Another thing im getting real tired of these hippo dogs cause people tell me my dog isnt an apbt cause they dont know what a apbt is. In my opinion most of it goes back to mislabeling dogs.

DryCreek posted this link about dog attacks, thought it might be helpful. (hope u dont mind, Dry) Most of the time human agreesive dogs are made human aggressive from their own owners. Yes, APBTs can be dog aggressive, it is in their genes, but to be human aggressive, I have found, is not a normal trait. It is instilled in the dog by mistreating the animal. You get these punk ass kids and a**hol people that mistreat their pets and that's where the problem usually begins. Pit Bull attacks are just heard about more because of the breed. Their reputation preceeds them and they are an easy copout for people who are uneducated in the breed. IMHO you cant find a better "friend" than an APBT.

Well, I adopt my Pits. True blood-lines? But, mine are on check. Can't say about the BYBs though. They need to quit.

its just like when the Dobemans became popular back in the 70's,,alot of dobies=alot of bites,,from ppl that had some tough dogs and did'nt know what they were doing,,then there were the cocker spaniels in the 80's,,Americas #1 dog,,alot of cockers=alot of bites,,not to big a deal,,smaller dogs. dog bites can be determined by populartiy of the breed. No-one has or can keep good statistics on this.

There was a pitbull attck today on the news and the park ranger said that it was probably a pit bull 5hat was breed for fighting and lost the fight so he/she was no longer of use to the pit bull fighter and was released into the woods. A man and his dog was attcked but no seriuos damage more like shock. Yet when a woman showed up the dog was fine and did not attcked her and she was actually petting the dog and keeping it calm until the fire department came ect. It is sad that people still breed pit bulls for fighting and then let them free in the woods when are of no use to them anymore. It was nice see that they were not necessarily blaming the breed but the owner of the dog. And that the woman got to say that she was able to pet the dog and keep it calm.

problem today pit bulls are owned by people that shouldnt own pit bulls..80% of the time they bred for all the wrong reasons..someone will look at a dog going crazy on a chain trying to kill the owner and friends..and go ohh we gotta breed that dog with mine..what is stupid police will go to kennel of a real dog fighter.walk up to dogs that have never seen the police officer..pet the friendly dogs..take them and kill them...but find a mixed breed byb pitbull..and adopt it out..

It's sad that apbts have such a bad rep. I truly believe that dogs that are bred for pure looks, like mine was :o , have the potential for being human aggressive because no thought went into the breeding except for the thought of $$$$$$$$$. Also, I recently went through a bad ordeal in which my wife was attacked by a Mastiff. Nothing was reported in the newspapers or anything, but I bet if it was the other way around things would have been different.

Why would they let it go in the woods? It was probably somebody's pet that they could not handle anymore and, typical, got dropped in the countryside with the excuse to themselves, "well, it's an animal, it can survive." If it was a pitbull that had lost a fight that was owned by a real dogperson, it would have been kindly euthanized and quietly buried. Please don't support the myths of the police and the SPCA.
