My friend has a female that had given birth and the pups were weaned already. The problem is that she is showing or experiencing a "drunken" stupor type of behavior. She fall's sideway's, confused look, curling of the paws. She was given a dose of ivermectin last week and i doubt that it is an overdose on that. She even has a decrease in her appetite but her stool is still hard and firm with no visible signs of blood or parasites. Have any of you ever experienced something like this? I was thinking that she got bit and is having a reaction to that bite. I did tell him to take her to the vet to be on the safe side. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for all replies and advice...Peace...YIS...

I had a springer spaniel do that years ago. The vet called it vetigo. They said she had an inner ear infection and it threw her out of wack. She acted drunk, she fell over, would curl her feet to hold onto the carpet, eyes would dart back and forth, decrease in eating and drinking, but she also had loose stool and some minor vomiting. It could be a few things. I would get her checked out ASAP.

The symptoms you've described sound neurological. The only person who can answer is the Vet. Ivomec can cause neurological problems, so can blood poisoning and ear infections. Please let us know what the diagnosis was. I hope she is okay.

I also heard someone say that distemper could cause that, but it sounds weird. Does she have any nasel or eye discharge.

I hope she is okay.I agree, also she can be having seizures, theirs alot of things that would and can cause seizures and neurological problems, could be head trauma, brain lesion , Toxins, tumor, or ? many things it can be.......When dogs are having balance problems they often seem to
lack an appetite and might require hand feeding. Part of the reason for
this is their inability to accurate control head motion, which might make them uncomfortable to try to drink water from a bowl and unpleasant to eat
from one, have them try hand feeding her and offering her water etc. I would definetly take her to the vet, just to many things it can be, good luck.........

if it isnt seizures then it would have to be something throwing her equliberiem off balance or something neurological.what you need to do is get her to the vet as soon as you can and get her a complete health check up from stem to stern check her for everything, including parasites, ear infections, seizures, neuro problems, and anything else the vet can think of.then just go from there.

I agree, it can also be parasites, they can make a dog extremely ill and have very simular symptoms........if the dog is that ill, and since they are'nt sure whats going on, I would not worm the dog again, I would definetly let the vet do it if he confirms that to be the cause.......also depending on what the cause is, would depend if the dog will eat....
