i just heard on the news not to far from me they almost passed a law to muzzle all "pitt bull breeds"on walks outside. how can they even think of this when some breeds of dogs are prone to bite so much more often than pitt bulls. like cocker spaniels and taco bell dogs.no other dog bites make the news but pitt bulls its not fair

What city are you located in? Maybe we can help you find the exact law & understand it so you can begin fighting it.

We are currently hunting for our first house, and since the city of pontiac here requires you to muzzle you pits when out on walks, we have decided to avoid that city. Even though no one muzzes their pits there, my aunt lives within city limits, and knows a few APBT owners, we still dont want to face these unfair laws and have decided to look elsewhere.

What If A Stray Happens To Attack? Its A Pit Not A Boxer! Its Mouth Is Its Main Means Of Self-defense. That Law Will Be Pretty Hard To Enforce. Besides Cops At Least Where Im At Would Be Scared To Come Close Enough To Hand Me A Ticket!

Yes, there was a city in my state that had this "law" in effect until a bulldog lover decide to fight it through courts. Basically, he did not muzzle, got a ticket, went to court, lost in local court but won once in federal court. Why? because local courts enforce local ordinances and Federal courts enforce Federal. Federal trumps local and a Fed law states that no municipality will enforce a law specifically design against a specific breed. The Yonkers, New York local ordinance was repealed in the summer of 2003 (remember that because I was very happy to hear someone "acted" where others just talked). Most people do not want to go throught the multiple court sessions this would entail. I am happy to state that this guy was black, dressed "stereotypical", and kept more than 2 dogs in an apartment (I think it was 3 in total).

Philadelphia,PA -- After a lot of barking from both sides, the council in New Castle County has voted down a proposal to muzzle pit bulls. The proposal would have classified pit bulls, as vicious animals. Owners would not have been allowed to walk them without putting muzzles on them first. The idea was proposed after the January pit bull attack of a young girl.
Last night, the council voted 11-to-2 against the ban.
Kristy Essick says her pitbull is a good boy and it appears rubber balls are the only things he rips apart. But Harley would have to wear a muzzle whenever he's off Essick's property if a New Castle County lawmaker gets his way tonight. And Essick would have to take out a 100 thousand dollar liability insurance policy on Harley and her 2 other pitbulls. Four years ago, a dog attacked and killed 2-year-old Zachary Grant. Just weeks ago, A pitbull named Diamond pounced on 3-year-old Destiny Campbell. Her mother told Action News what happened the day of the attack. Today Destiny faces numerous surgeries.
Kristy Essick knows every pitbull makes the public more fearful of dogs like Harley.
And Jea Street knows every pitbull owner isn't irresponsible, but says his breed specific legislation has to have teeth in it because fines just are not enough.
Jea Street knows getting fellow county council members to support him will be tough. He says he's up to the dogfight, which he can count on because owners like Kristy Essick will also be there tonight.
