I have a pit bull that is about a year old. We have an underground fence that keeps him in the yard. My neighbor hates my dog because of the breed. He is a wonderful dog and very gentle. I live in a small town and my neighbor has raised such a stink the Chief of Police just hand deliver to my house a new law that states I have to have a physical fence dug mimimum of two foot underground and that he has to be muzzled to be let outside. He has never attacked or done anything aggressive. In the law it states this rule applies to vicious dogs that have attacked twice and pit bulls. In the law this is the only breed mentioned. I can not afford a fence that I am going to have to pay extra to have it dug down so deep. I need some help. We have been picked on over this dog. We were following the city law so my neighbor could not do anything about us having this dog. So the town changed the law and only mentioned my breed of dog in the new law. My neighbor owns a business in this small town and the want to control everything to suit them. We love our dog, I have a four year old son and a little yorkshire terrier and my pit is gentle with both. He has the best personality. If anyone has any advice or could help point me in the right direction for some help I would greatly appreicate anything.

First off,
Get yourself a fence. Underground fencing is a waste of time with any breed, let alone a bulldog. It doesn't keep other people and dogs out of your yard, and with a bulldogs high pain tolerance, a little shock won't bother him. Dog aggression is prevalent in this breed, and if you think your well mannered pit bull is always going to be that way with other dogs, you've got another thing coming. If you can't afford a fence, you shouldn't own this breed. Please, pull what you can together and comply with the fence. It'll keep your dog and your neighbors safer in the long run. Some nutjobs won't hesistate to shoot a "vicious pit bull" if it's not confined.
Second, what your experiencing is normal for all APBT owners. Poor public perception has made it hell to own these dogs, but true fanciers pull through and try to educate the public. If your dog is as great as your describe it, and is old enough, have her temperament tested, get him his CGC, and try to register him as a therapy dog. It's good PR. Get involved in a dog sport. Show the public what you see everyday.
Good luck, PM me if you have more questions.

get a real fence under ground fences are dangerous and a waste of money as GSDbulldog said. If anything should be illegal it should be "Invisible" fences
