What do yall think is the right age to start with training i seen books say at 8 week tie a gallon of rocks to the collar of the dog (not take such advice). I seen a few wed sites say get a small hareness and tie a small sled weight with telephone books at 9 months and start them. One breed who owns an ACE told me to get her to sit, stay come and stop off leash work with that till she is a yar then buy a hareness and a sled get her to pull it empty and with the commands. Then start weigh it. Please tell me what you think please all advice is helpful

Their are alot of post about this. You better condition your dog for real when he is about 18 months. Let your puppy be a puppy. When a dog is young this is his learning period.

I started training Loki at 8 months. You can start doing harness training and light noise drags when the dog is big enough to be sized for a harness, but I wouldn't put any serious weight on until later. Especially if your dog is also a show prospect; heavy pulling can break them down a bit.

Thanks for the advice see i been playing with her and the flirt pole and we been doing weight condition to put the weight on her she lost with tapeworming and now she starting to gain back that weight. She does have show prospect if her obendince classes pay off she will be able to do both. I am just alittle concered about starting to quick and her show prospect suffering because of it.

why would her show prospect suffer if you start too quick on conditioning? sorry it's probably a noob question but i can't figure it out/

I was told adding to much weight on a puppy of 10 months old can make the dog body stress under the weight. Which can lead to injuries plus body bulk where its should not be. Safety is the most important thing

You can start actual command training by 8 weeks. Work on sit, stay, come, etc. When the dog is a little bigger, an empty gallon jug with a few small pebbles placed into can be tied to a plain ol' walking harness. This just gets the dog used to dragging something noisy behind him.
I wouldn't start any heavy conditioning until the dog is at least 15-18 months old. Before that, the dog is still developing physically. Putting stress on a growing pups structure can lead to increased chances of hip/elbow dysplasia, and can cause conformation faults (Thus dampering a dogs show career, david).

Her conformation can suffer if too much weight is put on her before she's done growing. A dog can go out at the elbows, end up with pasterns too bent, etc. I believe moderate work can be good for a young dog to help keep them lean, but you just don't want to overload a dog too young.
