I've got a couple questions for ya all in here.My female chases cats and I know it's normal and all but I want her to stop it.Everytime I take her potty if she see's a cat she goes wild.First she wines and stares and then pulls me as hard as she can to get to it.She also chases other animals too like rabbits.I think it's only if they move but I'm not sure.I used to let this cat into my home because he was cold.Well I forgot he wasin here and she went wild!!!They tore up my house.Luckily he got away because my cousin grabbed her.She tried to dive out of the window of my husbands car after one.I really want her to stop this because it has become quite a problem. Also she doesn't listen to me very well. She will my husband but not me.Can any of ya all help me out, please?

It's called prey drive, a very common trait in any terrier breed. While I don't feel it wise to punish a dog for displaying natural behavior, I too had a similar problem. My dog would act like a jackass out on walks, so I trained her to "Watch me" and sit. She's very food driven so all I had to do was hold a peice of kibble up to my face. Every time she started to act up, I put her into position, and eventually she began to behave. She'll probably still chase something if it takes off running out of nowhere, but she's nowhere bad as she used to be.

Good luck ;)

Good one. My pup has all these same problems. I'm training her now with sit & listen, commands. I slap my hands together to get her attention, then start walking her. If she jerks to look at something, I tug 2x's sideways to correct her. She gets tired of it and starts to listen. It takes time, it's tiring at times. Get a book on training with your dog. It does have some good methods on training. Good luck!

I used the food and "watch me" command also with Apollo. It worked out great. He totally ignored chickens during his CGC class and it even has worked when he is in the yard and the squirrels come harrassing him. It takes time and I worked with Apollo 3 times a day for 20 minutes at a time. It took awhile for him to get it perfect but it is possible.

Ive had rather good luck with Mikey and my 4 cats. When we first got him at Christmas he was very rambunctious and barked to get them to play etc. I would make him sit, get a treat, and eventually he stopped, now 2 of the cats are buddys with him, and the other 2 are tolerant and take care not to Run by him as he does love to give chase. That prey drive can't be stopped only controlled. Good Luck PS He is now 10 months old.
