Hello! I am new here and wanted to say HI, and tell you about myself.:) I am a married mom of 2 wonderful skin kids and also mom to 3 fur babies(dogs) and 8 cats! I just recently got my first pit pup last weekend(Amy). She is on the small side I think....the ppl I got her from said she was 4 mos old but to me she only looks 2-3mos, and also they bobbed her tail(which I have never seen on a pit) is this common, and why would someone do it? Also, when her and my boxer pup play, I notice she goes for his throat! Should I be concerned about this behavior? Thanks for any suggestions and answers. ;)

Hello amysmom and welcome to the forum.
Please excuse that I will be short and brief due to time constrains.
It is sad to hear the pup got his tail chopped off. That act is not common practice in our breed. This sounds more like misguided folk.
Our breed does "play" rougher than other breeds and depending on how purposely the breed that whelp this pup, it will be either accepting or out-right aggressive towards other animals. This does not mean that if it turns out to be intolerant of animals, it will be so towards humans. In fact, depending the pups pedigree and purpose of breeding, it may be the best human companion you have yet to experience.
Owning our breeds requires owners to become educated on the do's and don't of when owning our breed. In addition, new owners should become prepared for any possible occurrences/accidents (via scenario rehearsal or theoretical procedure) and means to avoid or resolve them.
Regarding your pup "going for the throat", as a preventive measure, always monitor their play.
There is a search option on this board that will probably answer most of your questions relating to your pup and its behavior/personality traits, energy level, and requirements. For example, If you a search on "Breaking Stick" within this site, it will educate you on a necessary preventive tool.
Good luck.

As Rocky said watch their play and be carefull when your pup gets older. Even though it was raised with other dogs doesn't mean it wont have problems with them when it is older.
There is alot of info on this site so good luck.

All we ask of you from this site is to be a responsable owner. I am sure that you are as you are a mom to kids and other pets. Do as much reading as possible about the APBT. It is imperitive that you educate yourself on the breed as to help prevent accidents and portray a good representation for the breed. Welcome and god bless your family and animals. Good Luck.
