lol hope they dont try that bitch in heat thing lol...........or meat
Dobermans, shotgun, attentive neighbors, locks & fencing, fencing, fencing.
As for meat, you can train them to only eat what you put in their bowl.
And as for the bitch in heat thing, that's why I use female Dobermans! :D

No true yard to guard so to speak, but I've got shady types & unfriendly neighbors (Who have proved to me that they will enter my property.), not to mention dumb*** neighborhood kids who try to come and go as they please.
I generally have at one 1 or 2 GSDs around the yard, but when their not there, I've got the best damn guard dog:

Other than that, I had a friend install two cameras, one in either side of the yard. I can't remember how much it cost, but I'm guessing about $100? I have motion sensitive lights too, which don't really do anything. . . But hey. . .
I also have electric wire running along the top intermost part of the fence, so if someone were to put there hands up to climb it, they get surpised ;)

LOL, that works for sure, and bitches tend to be more territorial do they not?

well actually i never trained them for this mexicano but they wont eat anything i dont feed them even bacon a friend of mine tried to give them bacon wouldnt take it sniffed it and turned and walked away so i had diffrent friends try everything and they will not take anything i dont give them,as far as the bitch in heat thing i have a male and a female so while he is doing his buisness the female can take up the slack.lol
LOL, that works for sure, and bitches tend to be more territorial do they not?I don't know about more territorial, but are at least as territorial as the males but are more focused on the task at hand. Males are easily distracted & want to fight too much. These have been my first female guard dogs & I doubt I will ever use a male again!
What's funny is I think one of my Dobies is a raging feminist - if a strange man tries to come into the yard she goes right for his privates & it's not for a friendly sniff!! She was not taught this either, it's something she came up w/ on her own.

ya know i have seen dobies come up with alot of their own little quirks that they do they are by far my second favorite dog after the bulldogs.and they are fantastic guard dogs for your property granted you can take care of them right and you know how to control this type of large agerissive dog, because they can be down right scary when they wanna be.and that means like bulldogs that they are not for everybody.so if you are thinking on getting one be sure and do your homework on the breed.
shot gun with rock salt or rubber bullets and a good ole mutt. if the dog doesnt scare you youll think your dead when the gun goes off.
Dry Creek: No, she does not do any snuffling or snorting. She goes there to bite.
Seal: You are right on there! lol.

First you need a fully enclosed yard with locks on every door and barb wire on the fencing enclosure. For your most valuable dogs use a chain coller with a big strong pad lock. The most important and best item is the SECURITY VIDEO CAMERA.

Wow, you should name her Skinner.;)
Wow, you should name her Skinner.;)lol. Maybe I'll change her name to David. Wasn't David the one who in the Bible brought King Saul 200 Philistine foreskins?
The first time I saw her do it I thought the meterman's jewels were going to be toast. Luckily, I was there & called her off. When he saw her going for him he froze stock still. He's a better person than I am b/c she got awful close & if it was me I'd at best covered myself & jumped a mile high or at worst brained her w/ my mag light. lol.

Damn good neighbors work for me. If even one person approches my house they don't know or are expecting I get a phone call. Plus, my mother stays there most of the time while I'm at work. ;)
(And one of my neighbors is an animal control officer...he keeps an eye out for me and keeps other off my back. ;) Got a note from the Animal Control once talked to him and he took care of it so I don't get a note again. :) )

You sure about the chain collar thing? I've read over and over chains used as a collar aren't good for the dog. Don't think I'd ever use one.

No need to use a chain around the dog's neck for a collar. None.

all i have ever seen a chain collar do is take off all the hair around the dogs neck and cause a infection,so i would never use or recomend a chain collar.

Female rottie/dane mix with a shepherd mix in the front. Half the house is in a fenced yard. 12 other dogs inside. 1 chow mix in the kitchen and 1 pit in the bedroom the rest are kennelled inside. The roar of commotion coming from the house is enough to deter most. Hell, even our relatives don't want to visit. Excellent neighbors at the top of our long drive. The power people use binoculars to read the meter.
I also don't invite people over, in case they are scoping out the yard with plans to come back when we aren't home.

Most people dont know how to use the chain collar in the proper and correct way. Alot of ameture dogmen just throw a chain around the dogs neck and pad lock it as his permanent collar thats not how its supposed to be done. There is the responsible and correct way to do it. Any body that wants to learn the correct way PM me.

Right now, fence all the way around with a lock on the gate. And an 80-pound mouthy Dogo male. When Jedi goes back home, I will return to not letting my girl out for more than 5 minutes without supervision. Later on, the back yard is getting privacy fenced and possibly hotwired. Also intend to put a motion sensor on the outside lights. I also make sure my dogs wear ID and are microchipped (and am looking into tattoos) so at least I have that on my side if they get out or someone steals them.
I also try to stay on good terms with my neighbors. I hope they would come over and investigate if something were amiss. I've already had the kid across the street come by to make sure everything was okay when he saw the animal control truck parked out front (not there for us). On the same note, I don't all the way trust some of my neighbors, so I make sure they're aware that if the dogs are outside, I'm right there within earshot.

Let' see.....my yard:
8 ft privacy fency double boarded (meaning there was already a fence in place with the "ugly" side in towards our yard so we put up a second layer of boards to make it harder to just break & board & be in the yard). There is horese/cattle hot wire running along the bottom & top of the fence. There is also 1 ft deep concrete trenching along the bottom of the fencing to prevent dogs from digging under. The gates on the fence are accessible only form the inside of the yard & contain the heaviest duty padlocks money can buy. We have 4 strategic spotlights for nighttime use. We also have a mouthy Dogo always lookin for fun, parterned by a 110lb Rottweiler, & a 100lb Shar Pei/Cane Corso (although only 2 of those dogs are outside & 1 time & 1 is in the house). Plus, at this point in time, ALL my dogs are inside in kennels at night & if I am gone for long periods of time during the day & there isn't an immediate neighbor to keep an eye on them.

well saiyagin i really dont belive there is a right way to use a chain for a collar it was real big in the 60's and 70's but folks were finding out that the dogs didnt like them they were always rusting on them and it caused the fur to fall out in the shape of chain links or just fall out alltogether around the neck then they would get bad infections,or you would have the dumb asses that was new to the breed and they would put it on so tight that it would grow into the neck.so then everyone switched to nylon and they have been working great ever since.but thats just my reason why i dont like chains around they neck of my dogs i never did use them myself but i seen alot of folks who did including ol floyd.but the way i always looked at it was i would not want to wear a big thick chain with a padlock around my neck so why would i put it on my dog.but if you have found a way to use one efectivley with out any side effects then i guess go ahead and use em.but i never will.
