that website is the Illinois Womans Press Association...WTF?LOLCKC has a lot of weight pull events in S. MS. They even have a weight pull club. Their next event is 2/25/06 in Taylorsville. See the link below for more info.

Campbell, even though your not in LA, contact the Cajun Country K9 Club (APBT club) as it's based right outside of Hammond, LA & not that far away. They can fill you in on all the goings on as well.
Other than that, check the ADBA, AADR, & IWPA websites. Although the CKC is huge here, it's the biggest byb registry so I won't support them in any way..even if it's to enter dogs in weightpulls.
Just a lesson I learned, Campbell, be prepared to travel if you want to do these things. ;)

I wouldn't discourage someone from having fun w/ their dog b/c a club registers BYB stuff. I haven't found a club yet that won't reg. BYB stuff. In fact, I'd bet the biggest BYB registry around is probably AKC. And we all know the ADBA registers quite a bit of BYB stuff in their own right.
Campell, go where your preference lies & where is within your limits to travel. ADBA & AADR don't have events in the MS. area so I went to the CKC Fall Classic last year & had a blast.

However, most registries still have some sense & don't allow the pointless registering of cross-bred mutts (aka schnoodles, labradoodles, puggles). And at all of the competitions I've been to of theirs, it's such a "for sale" event. You feel like you are at some seminar with people trying to sell you crap. Also, I didn't like how their pulls were run.
Again, it's just my opinion.

Again, it's just my opinion.I guess I got lucky. No one tried selling me anything, nor were any products featured. There were a few banners up for dog food that sponsored the show but they didn't try to get you to buy it or anything. I will say a few times I did feel like I was in a seminar, but that's I was in a seminar. (They happened to be holding training seminars where I was sitting. I guess I sat in the wrong bleachers. lol.) I don't know how their weight pulls are but I hope to find out. The one thing I didn't like was that there was some political B.S. going on, but that's in all clubs.

Thanks for the info. Taylorsville isn't that far. akc-ckc-adba-abba-dabba-doo. I just want to see some dogs pull weights. Maybe I'll care about agendas of registries later in life. Its confusing to not know anyone with a pit and try to get on a computer and figure out this club... that club. There again thank you for the info. I'm sure I'll be able to go.

I'd like to show/pull in ADBA & I really would like to go to some AADR events, but they're all too far away for us & when push comes to shove it doesn't matter to me who holds event so long as there's some good clean fun to be had. Hey, maybe I'll see ya at Taylorsville! ;)

The CKC is holding a weightpull here in April. I am going just to check it out and also watch the obedience and agility right before it. I just thought it would be fun to go and watch as its something that I may be interested in getting into at some point with the right dog.
