OFF-TOPIC need computer whiz. Mods please dont delete

Well, 2 hours ago I was laughing at this big virus supposed to destroy files tomarrow. Low and behold....I think I've got it. I'm not looking to rant about the irony (yet) lol, I'm just looking for help on what in the heck to do to try to stop the crash before it happens. From yahoo news... "This virus contains stealth technology to knock out your anti-virus software," Perry said. "It goes out and defeats them." I ran my anti-virus software and came to found out that was turned off and there are NO websites I can download any type of program off I've found so far (the download option is disabled :(). Looking like I'm pretty screwed. I got it from a pm from a member on yahoo! I'm pretty sure...I clicked on an offline I had which was a geosite page and the user name was sillyfairygirl or something very similar. I normally dont click strange links but I wanted to know who in the heck was pm'ing me.

Since I've found this out -my computer has crashed and upon restart tons of new programs were supposedly installed by themselves (it said camera, webcam, and *new harddrive*) I dont have a webcam installed, or a camera, and certainly not a new harddrive!

I'm looking for any suggestions what so ever guys. If you can help me at all I would very much appreciate it. If I cant get this fixed before the crash...I'll be back whenever I can!

Hope its nothing major... under your computer programs do you have a "go back" feature? not sure it would do you any good, but might help.

umm just start your computer off from new... thats what my friend always does to mine when i get stuff like that

you should save any pics and files you need and reformat your computer. You will need all the disks that origionally came with your computer. A system restore will not get rid of the virus. You will have to wipe it out and start over

Thanks for all the help you guys. I was sending a pm a few mins ago and my computer was beeping like a bomb...LOL Dracdog, I appreciate, I might hit you up in a minute. I ran a search for it and some compnay called "bitdefender" has a program to find it and stop it, I guess this is fairly common. If you want to read about it go to yahoo news and search keyword virus... I suggest everyone check your antivirus programs because I had no idea I had it until I went to scan for it after hearing the news and finding out my antivirus was diabled and I cant download more (this is what it does)....so please everyone check your AV and if you need help feel free to post here, I'm hoping this program works.....if it does I'll let you all know. If not, I will call DRACDOG's friend and see what he can do. If worse comes to worse I gues I'm running system resotre and losing everything ( I deleted all but the recent points a week or so back to save on harddrive space too!) :(

BTW-it looks like the virus is spread mainly through e-mails claiming free access to dirty sites (according to the news channel) but I dont check my email, let alone click those links so its obviously spreading some other way. I believe I got it from yahoo messenger when I got a link from someone who later said they didnt send a link to me. I got the link, clicked it, logged in (it asked for my yahoo account id) and then it just showed me pics on my harddrive? Later on I logged into my current account and got a message from my other old account ...same link I got from a that person who didnt send it to me. I logged back on my old name and everyone asked what that link I sent was....so take it as you wish. Dont click ANY LINKS SOMEONE SENDS YOU THROUGH Y! PAGER without checking with them first! Just want to say "whew" that was a frantic one. Shon went out of his way to walk me through everything step by step (I dont know jack about a computer!). Thanks for the support from everyone who responded here, it was very much appreciated!
