<!--startindex-->HONOLULU -- Police charged a Wahiawa man who is accused of shooting his tenant's dog to death.

Kenneth Hood broke into his tenant's home, shot her pit bull and then dumped its body in the trash, according to court documents.

Police charged Hood with burglary, firearms violations and cruelty to animals.

The dog's owner, a 19-year-old military wife named Jenna Day, said she plans to move out.

<!--startindex-->WAHIAWA, Oahu, Hawaii -- Police arrested a Wahiawa landlord after they said he broke into his tenant's unit, then shot and killed her dog.

The tenant, a 19-year-old military wife, was not home at the time, but is now packing her bags and moving out.

Jenna Day has lived in her Wahiawa home since April. Police contacted her on Sunday night.

"They told me this door was busted down and they told me he shot my dog and I went to the spare room and that's when I seen all the blood there," Day said.

Day said she was shocked to find blood on the floor of her spare room and more blood under the window. Her dog Boo Boo was wrapped in a blanket and thrown in the trash, Day said.

She admitted that she has gotten complaints from neighbors about her dogs barking. She also said she has had some trouble with her landlord over money.

"I was trying to find a place with them, but it's hard," Day said.

The young military wife was planning to send the dogs back to her family on the mainland, to be with her sister and brother.

"He said, 'I'm real excited, can't wait to see her.' And now, he's never going to see her again," Day said.

The property owner broke into the tenant's unit and shot the dog that had bitten him earlier in the day, according to police. Day said that can't be true because she was with the dogs until she went to work, and then locked them in the house.

Police arrested her landlord, Kenneth Hood, 51, on charges of burglary and cruelty to animals.

Police recovered the rifle allegedly used to kill the dog.

"I hope justice is served. I mean even though it was a pet and a dog, I hope he does go to jail for a long time," Day said.

(I did read in a different article that the police deemed the dog had NOT bitten the landlord)
