When my dog was a puppy, the breeder gave me the ADBA registation papers for him, but I lost them.:( Does anyone know how to go about getting another? What would I need to do? About how much does it cost?
Next question: What does having him ADBA registered really mean for him and me?
Also, I got him from a BYB. I'm probably going to get laughed at for this one but, would ADBA have a pedigree of some sort on my dog, considering both of his parents were ADBA registered?
Any insight would be much appreciated.:)

BYB or not it is worth doing unless you think/know the papers were falsisified... But any "papered pup ADBA will have the pedigree for".

Haha, thats great news. I've been wanting to get a hold of my dog's pedigree. I was just an ass, and lost the registration last year. No, I dont think he doctored it up by any means. As a matter of fact, he is working with me to get my dog registered. We spoke about it today.
After I get my boy registered, what do I do to get his pedigree?

Any insight would be much appreciated.:)If the papers are still in the breeder's name, the breeder has to call the ADBA & apply for a duplicate. If they're in your name, you have to call the ADBA & ask for a duplicate. It's not hard & only costs about $15.
Once you get the papers back you fill them out & if you want a ped you check which type you'd like. Then send the filled out papers w/ the required fee back to the ADBA. But make sure the breeders has signed the papers b/c if they haven't the papers are worthless & the ADBA won't reg. your dog!
As for what registering him w/ the ADBA means for you & your dog, it means nothing really. But if you ADBA reg. your dog you can compete in ADBA shows & pulls, which are fun.
BUT ... the ADBA are also rats who will dime you out in a New York minute. For example, say you sell a ADBA reg. pup to someone. They eventually use that pup for dogfighting & get caught. They can prosecute YOU for "selling w/ intent to dogfight". They'll use the papers on the dog as proof you sold it to him & the ADBA will verify it! They already tried to bust Tom Garner like this. Plus, the ADBA has refused to lift one little finger to help Floyd Boudreaux - a man who had fed the ADBA for years! - after he was arrested, falsely accused & had his whole yard of dogs put down. So basically the ADBA are the police deparment's hand maidens. Because of this many doggers shun the ADBA like the plague.
As for "doctoring" papers, Kgip didn't mean the the papers were tampered with. He meant to make sure the papers aren't hung. Hanging papers (a.k.a. doctoring papers) is when you put papers on a dog to which they do not belong. For example, say a man owns 2 adult pit bulls. He breeds them but the the litter doesn't survive. He sees a litter of unregistered pit bull pups in the paper for $50 ea. He then goes out, buys the whole litter, brings them home & registers the litter w/ the ADBA using his dogs' numbers. That is only one way "hanging papers" is done & it happens fairly frequently in the ADBA. In fact, the scenario I just mentioned (buying an unreg. litter & papering it) has actually happened! There has even been cases of mixed breeds having ADBA papers hung on them! So you must buy from a reputable breeder b/c hung papers are worthless.
Hope this helps & good luck! :)

Well thats a new wrinkle on the brain, thanks for sharing that info ABK. I'd rather register my dogs with the BFKC anyway's.

A lot of ppl think the ADBA is all sunshine & rainbows since they are the premiere registry for the APBT right now. But as the old saying goes, "beauty is only skin deep" & if some ppl dug below the surface of the ADBA's veneer they might be shocked at what they find.
B/c I do not agree w/ some of the things that ADBA has done I have switched several of my dogs over to BFKC myself. They (BFKC) seem like super good folks. Great service, lower fees & it's run by a true dogman.
