Hello all. I'm new to the forum and I'd like to say how much I already enjoy this place. I've have a question regarding brindle dogs. I know color is not at all important in the whole scheme of things. But all things being equal, and I strongly stress being equal, we all have our preferences, myself personally being partial to brindle and buckskins. In all the old photos of bulldogs I've seen, the overwhelming majority were brindle with white markings. But in more modern times the majority of successful bulldogs seem to me to be either buckskins or blacks, and to a lesser extent reds. Assuming I'm correct in my assumption about modern dogs, what happened to all the early brindle dog blood? Has it been left behind in preference of other more successful lines? Have they been turned into show dogs? Is brindle recessive and thus now less abundant? Or are they still around in the same numbers and I'm just not seeing them? I've tried to research brindle coat inheritance, but just ended up being more confused! Below is the link I went to. Any response is greatly appreciated.
