I am trying to find out what color combinations create brindles. I have a brindle male and want to breed it but I am not sure to breed to a solid or another brindle.

Don't breed for color!! Do you have a ped? How has he proven to be breed worthy? If this dog is of unknown background and is just a "pet", neuter him.

there is no 100% way to get the color you want but theres more to breeding then what color you would like need to do background history check

God damn it dude.
What have made your dog worthy to breed?
If You want a dog just for how it looks buy 1 amstaff.

I think we need a permanent "statement" to be left on the forums on why you should NOT breed your dog. This happens all too much.

Please spay/neuter your dog. There are thousands of "Pit Bull" type dogs dying daily from over breeding, please dont contribute to this!

Stay, read ALOT, and keep an open mind. And Welcome

You should go and adopt a brindle from the pound. There are plenty of people on this site who probably know someone who has to give up their animal due to bsl. They had a rescue site in Arizona posted not that long ago that has some great dogs for adoption. Their ages range from 3 or 4 months up if I am not mistaken. Don't contribute to the many animals already getting euthanized in this world.

Everyone is just trying to inform you that there are too many dogs just bred for color in the world. There aren't enough homes in the world for dogs that are just bred because the owner wants them to look a certain way. So many dogs like that are euthanized each year. Please reconsider. No one can make up your mind for you but please reconsider.

I am not breeding just for color. He has a pedigree but I have two choices as to who I can breed too. I was just wondering the mixture that created a brindle. Calm down!

Thats simple genetics and if you researched genetics like you should before considering breeding, you would know all about the brindle color and if it is dominate /recessive etc etc..

Just because your dog has a pedigree does not mean that he deserves to be bred.

I'm CKC registered but you don't see MY offspring running around, do you?! Too bad, they'd be some great white dogs!

Seriously though, what has your dog done to be proven as breeding quality? Roll over? Poop on the floor? Sleep?

ooo,by the way in the pit bull breed there is only one true way that a dog can prove it self to be worthy to be bred.

Since you are going to breed regardless of what we say:

Brindle is a dominant color, you can breed to anything and you are going to get brindles.

But the others are right, breeding just for color is bad news. There should be more to breedign then having a pretty dog, and taking it to another pretty dog to get pretty puppies.

Think about it.

I agree with rocksteady. If you knew what you were doing & were educated & experienced enough to be breeding dogs, you wouldn't have to ask such a basic question.

As for others, please do not help byb's in their "mission". Our goal is to educate them, not help them ruin the breed by telling them how they should go about accomplishing their uneeded breedings.

I second this. It actually popped into my mind a couple of times. Can one of the mods make a sticky for breeding?

Brindle is not a color, it is a marking. All dogs carry brindling, it is the markings from the wild dogs.
Brindling can come in every color.

A lot of dogs from England were of brindling and some dogs from the mountains of Spain and Italy were brindle as well as black, these dogs help create the APBT.

On the topic of genetics, does anyone know of a good genetics page for pit bulls?
