hi. i'm new to the world of pit ownership......or pit parenting i guess is a better way to describe it. he is a gorgeous brindle pit pup(5 months) that i got from the spca. i suspect that he was beaten by his previous owner because he has submissive urination in the extreme. i have a few questions.
1. i have another dog....a male lab mix and now a male pit. people have told me that this is a bad idea but i think that as long as i never leave them together unsupervised i don't think it'll be a problem. but i was wondering is there really any more risk with a male dog and a male pit than there would be with 2 male dogs of another breed as long as there is supervision?
2. feeding time is another thing altogether. neither dog has any food agression which i am very happy about.....both dogs allow my hands in their bowls or taking away their food altogether but the pit scarfs the food down until it's gone and the lab mix prefers to eat a little bit then leave then go back a little later and eat some more......is it going to be a matter of consistantly pulling the pit away from the other dog's food untill he gets it or is it better just to seperate them until the lab is finished eating.
3. play fighting. they play fight. i know they're playing because both of their tails are wagging and they are "laughgrowling"(as one trainer called it)for now the lab mix is in control of these play fights but obviously this will change when the pit matures. is it ok to allow this or should i put a stop to it immediatly in order to make sure it never escalates into actual fighting?
4. any other common helpful tips you could give would be greatly appreciated.
thanks!.
5. not a good idea to let them play tug of war together?
