When I took her to the pound to see if she had a chip they told me she was a pit bull and about 11 months old. I don't know much about them. I have others tell me she looks more like a Stafford. What is the difference? Does she look like a pit bull to you guys?

Maybe the vet will know. She just doesn't seem wide enough to be a pit bull. I also think she may be pregnant and I don't want to have a litter of puppies on my hands either. I've done almost everything I can do to try and locate her rightful home but have not been able to. I think she has fleas and possibly worms. What a mess I have gotten myself into.

i think it looks like a APBT but a UKC style. that or a staffy.

somtimes a mess you gotten yourself into turns out the best choice you have ever made. give it a while. she will probibly be the light of your life in a month or so.

Whatever she is-she is a very pretty dog, very nice and very scared and I am going to do whatever I need to do to find her a good home-preferably mine...(hoping husband will go for this). I think my first steps will be vet visit and then look into testing temperment. Thanks for your input! = )

From the picture she looks very much like a pit, she could have some stafford in her back ground but I would say more pit than any thing. Of corse that is just my opinion. Good luck with her.

I am doing exactly what I would want someone to do if it were my lost dog. I have a HUGE fight on my hands to keep this dog as my own pet. My Husband is furious and thinks its going to eat the kids. He is ignorant. This dog is still a puppy and puppies are trainable. I'm secretly going to take it through some temperment tests at a local trainer. She is so pretty and I think she is worth it. Maybe we can make a deal? I let him have my harley and I keep the dog.:)

She is very beautiful. She doesn't look to be croosed with anything but Staffy and APBT, from the pic, IMO. I would deffinately take her to a trainer and have her tested. If she comes out good, she will absolutely be worth the time and money.

Well I took her to the vet today. He said she just had a litter of puppies and hasn't been taken well care of. She is around 1 and 1/2 years. She had fleas really bad so we treated them. Her right ear was also very infected. They had to sedate her and flush it out. She has to take medicine now.

My husband would be pissed if I spent ANY money on this dog other than food.
Imagine this picture....I clean an elderly man's home in the afternoon for some extra cash and I went at 4pm today-I took the dog with me. The dog hung out in the car until I left for the vet appt at 6. Then once the vet told me they had to sedate her to check out her ear, I had to figure out how I was going to go home without the dog. I managed it just fine somehow, made dinner and fed the family and then picked the dog up at 7:50pm. The poor thing is so loaded. She can't walk. I weigh about 100lbs and she weighs 49. I had to lift her into my suburban and then out again once we got home. My husband has no clue what has just happened. :D LOL Meanwhile, the dog has wet her bed twice..:(

However, the vet and the techs said they had no problems with her behavior while she was not sedated other than the fact that she has no name to answer to.:) I just may have found a good dog. Temper test tomorrow morning.

Good going. This breed has a way of winning over people who arent to keen on em pretty quickly! I'm sure your husband will be fighting you for the chance to walk her and play with her in no time ;) . She's a good looking girl, and sounds like a good dog in general. Welcome to the board and read up, you've got alot to catch up on quickly being a new breed owner. Any questions dont be afraid to ask them.

i am very very happy she ended up with you! i hope she passes the test. pit bulls are known for there affection to kids....... they love em!!!

i would hate to see her end up with another bad owner.

i rescued a pit last spring she had papers but they got lost, but anyways she didnt even like me at first. with months and months of training, bonding and exercise she was ready for a fun show in the summer and guess what....?

she pulled 3,900lbs and came 2nd place. and second in conformation, since then i have treated her like a human. she even sleeps on my bed lol.

since spring i have been studying online evernight learning and then i have decided to get a couple reg. APBT pups so i can go to the big shows. and have my own little team..... (team rez dogz) since brit dont have papers, but i found her ped online at her old kennel in california. they took real bad care of her too. now shes loving life. and my pups are getting older and they are keeping me busy, so far so good well mannered babies!!

anyways sorry for rambling, any thought on a name for her?

Is there a way I can somehow find out where she came from? She looks like she should have papers.

I'm sure she will pass her test-she is a sweetie. I would love to come home and show my husband that she passed with flying colors and I will now surrender my Harley to him if I have to.

As for the name..... I had a dear friend (pretty much family) who is no longer among us. He always went to my house and stole something and left a little note about how Taffy came to my house and stole a piece of cheese...(you'd have to be there sort of thing) anyways I believe that most of my luck comes from my friend who's gone. When I met this dog Taffy stuck out in neon lights for some reason. So, I think I might pick that. Any other ideas?

How about Cash? That was his name. Or how about Treasure? That would be a nice one seeing as she looks like a treasure! ;)

Here are some more ...

Benita (Latin for "blessed" - she was "blessed" that you rescued her!)

Dori (French for "golden haired")

Diamond (she's your "diamond" in the rough)

Keona (Hawiian for "God's gracious gift" - she is God's gracious gift to you!)

Maggie

Pooh Bear

Sienna (Italian for reddish-brown)

Trixie (Latin for "she who blesses")

Willow

Dusty (You picked her up off the "dusty" streets)

OK, I think i'm done now ... lol ...

Waht does Lar-San mean?

Its crazy that you said Dusty because the friend that made me think Taffy.....his name was Dusty. I think his mom would be pissed if I named my dog after her dead son.

Thanks for the ideas! I am off to get ready for our temper test this morning..

I'm loving this dog more every day!

You wouldn't be naming your dog after her dead son. Your dog's name would be totally independent & seperate from her son & was suggested on this board by someone who didn't even know her son! If she's that sensitive about it that she'd have a hissy over a dog's name it may behoove her & those around her that she be put in the care of a good therapist or support group!

As for Lar-San, it is a bloodline. You may visit Lar-San Knls here:

I think your first suggestion, Taffy, works beautifully. No one will be able to tell you what your dog is, they can guess, but without a pedigree you will never know for sure. Will you get her spayed? Please? LOL

Best wishes on her temperment test and I hope she makes you happy for many years to come.

I will be getting her fixed. No doubt. Its obviously some stupid person who didn't do their part as a responsible pet owner and that is why Taffy is now with me. I am by no means irresponsible and I want Taffy to have a nice life from here on out-without puppies.
Taffy passed her temper test today. NOT aggresive towards humans. The trainer said she does have some dog aggresion but its mainly towards small dogs. This can be worked with and I plan on getting her into class as soon as I can. Overall the lady said that I scored and that if treated right and trained she will be a loving pet for life. You can tell Taffy has been mistreated but she just wants someone to love her-and I can't help but love her.
Taffy meet Tiffany your new Alpha bitch! LOL

I am MAD now. I want to put Taffy into obedience training so, I have been calling around. Well, I called this one lady and she told me good luck finding anyone who would be willing to train a pit bull since they are such loaded guns...WTF? She said I will not be able to find anyone who would be willing to train her. BS! I found 3 other places...maybe I should call her back and give her the numbers?.?.?.
This dog is a really nice dog, she just needs a little bit of manners.

Taffy looks too sweet, just a word of caution, keep her out of striking distance of any other dog until you can really gauge her tolerance of other dogs. Never leave her alone with another dog. For now until I really got to know her she would only be around people. Get a good trainer so they can help you with what to expect regarding her behavior around other animals. Accidents happen very quickly...God Bless you for taking her and Good Luck to you in the future!!!!

Loaded gun.....yes they can be, esp in the wrong hands. Bad choice of words however I'm qouting ya'll here....

If this is a case of bad manners, it is easily solved. You must be consistant say what you mean... mean what you say! Most APBT or type dogs are very Intellegent and eager to please.

Now if it's animal aggresion or learning how to handle the situation should it arise ....a group class is not where it should be addressed.

Contact your local ADBA club.

I have her set up for private sessions. I keep her away from other dogs because I know how she acts, she gets aggressive.
I don't have any plans on taking her anywhere until I learn how to control her. She is very eager to please me though. She is always by my side. She's very sweet.

She looks like a pure amstaff or APBT to me too but I will never know...

LOL your in trouble now...the breeds winning ya over. Once you've seen a "pitbulls" dedication, loyalty, and compassion its hard to not get hopelessly hooked.

Your doing the right thing so far it sounds like. She will probably be a bit dog-aggressive when mature but thats the nature of the breed, and is a small handicap considering what other credentials they bring to the table! Just treat her like a APBT and remember her old ancestors were fighting dogs so never trust her not to fight.

Taffy is a beautiful girl and I'm glad she has gotten a seemingly responsible owner. Hows the husband....are those eyes winning him over now too?

Umm yes he has since put up sheet rock (SP?) and insulation in the garage and given her a MOUND of pillows and blakets to sleep with, he warms the blankets in the dryer.....(WE LIVE IN CA-ITS NOT THAT COLD) he tucks her in in the middle of the night......he wants to get her an electric blanket. I don't let her in the house yet because I have a cat and a very small set of identical twin girls. But, I think the dog is his...LOL

You're doing a great thing. I have 2 rescued apbts. They're the best. You said you live in CA, don't know what part, but check out this site, http://www.badrap.org/rescue/. It has many pit-friendly resources and great general info for people new to the breed. They are in the Bay Area. But I'm sure they would know of good trainers in other parts of the state too. I took one of my boys to a trainer they recommend and he graduated top dog of the class! Good luck with her.

They are just size inhanced from out cross breeding and adding some size to the breed, and considered Staffys because the AKC wont register the name "Pit-Bull". Dont ever get it tangled or twisted. They are the same type of breed, just different Registers will give different names. If you dont agree and I am sure there are billions of people who know better than i, that a pit-bull and a staffy are not the same. IM me and tell me the difference and stuff so that i can improve my knowlege of my own breed. Thanks

False. Staffordshire Terriers USED to be the same breed....but generations of selective breeding in both breeds for diffrent purposes has created two distinct and seperate breeds. Now you could say Amstaffs are "pitbulls" because in the general sense of the word they are, but they are not APBT. Staffs are great dogs in their own right-and are right for some people. Lets make a comparrison here. An APBT is like a Ferrari. Theres people who didnt like the speed and responsibility of owning a Ferrari-but wanted the look. They took the motor out, put in a 4 cylinder. They overexaggerated all the features to make it "look" the part since it couldnt do the task anymore. Some might say they are the same car-I certainly wouldnt. Amstaffs and APBT's have the same foundation...its what is done with that foundation that determines the final outcome.

I like your comparrison. I makes it easier for me to understand.
