Ive been feeding my boy about a cup more then i usually do to pack on pounds for the winter. And it seems like he is loosing more weight then gaining how much should i feed him for the winter time witht the food i have him on (Diamond Lamb & Rice). I started him yesterday 2 cups in the morning and 2 cups late at night should i see changes or is there any reasons he isnt putting on pounds.

I'm assuming you live in an area that gets really cold in the winter. Same here. What we've been doing is supplementing their normal dog food with some additional food that we cook up. Because their water bowl is always frozen, twice a day we have been cooking a kind of soup from our left over chicken, rice and other items. The main reason we give the soup is to keep the dogs hydrated and to add additonal carbohydtrates and protein. It seems to work for us. That's the only advice i can give, someone else may have better advice than me though.
It dont get really cold compared to alot of northern places but its now down to about the mid 20's at night and hell thats cold enough for me.
try oatmeal 2x a day mixed with his food

Feed once a day....I'm also bulking a few dogs up, and started increasing their feed about 1/2 cup every week for 4 weeks. After they get nice and fat I will cut it down just a litte, winter came on quicker than expected and I had to jump the food more than I like but what can you do.

this is great advice, a lot of people think meat only and other high fat foods to build fat, but, fat does not make fat. white foods bulks up, pastas, patatoes and floured items. the soup is a great idea.

Pasta does good, but rice works the best.Rice and grits are the number one things I like.Potatoes are not good,as they turn into straight glucose once in the body.I increase the amount of food,as well as the meats and rice they are fed.The oatmeal helps with their coat,IF they will eat it,Lol.
I noticed you stated he looks like he is losing weight though. And also noticed no one bothered to ask if he had been through a good worming and recent check up.That should be the first thing to think of.Make sure he is parasite free (heartworms also),and that his teeth are in good shape.
I wish my dogs only ate 4 cups.I have a couple who eat 10-12 a day.Of course they are high maintenance also. The ones we hunt with.

go to walmart and get equate meal replacement 100 calories. mix 1 can a day with oatmeal or rice and your dog will pack on some pounds. I only suggest this if your dog is active. Running, spring poles, flirt poles, bite sleeves are some awesome work out tools. I also use satin balls to pack on weight. nuvet vitamins are also an outstanding addition to your program.
