This morning when i went out to pick up and water...Hot Mama looked like someone had shoved a soccer ball in her cheek ..IM assuming its a spider bite rather than a copperhead, being that its in high 30's here...I checked her spot for a snake..and well no snake..lol unless she ate it...which i doubt..But shes doing fine..acts like nothing happend to her..lol. Gave her some dex and amox..swelling has started to go down..I just wanted to share the pics with everyone..LOL enjoy....

Poor thing, at least you were able to take care of her promptly. Sorry to hear it though. Keep us posted if you find out what the cause is for sure. Hopefully she'll heal up quick!!

Yikes! That looks awful! Just keep on doing what you're doing. If she'll let you do a warm compress that might feel good too.

did you check her doghouse, they might have bedded up in it,, might be a spider, but i had a snake do one like that,,except mine was close to the nose and it looked like a softball a the end of her nose

Ive had dogs bit by snakes many times...BUT i have yet to see one be this swollen. Most of the time the swollen area is soft. Hers is hard like a brick...Im leaning more toward a poisinous spider of some kind.

Shes doing a little better now...im trying to figure out what kind of spider it is...I dont think its a brown recluse, being that their poision is flesh eating and usally causes the area of the bite to abcess and look alomost like a gunshot wound. Usally within 24 hours of the bite necrosis will set in and the skin with slough off and result in a huge nasty hole where the bite was. Just to show how extreme the swelling was..here is hotmama before the swelling and then with the swelling.

Ouch! I am glad if it had to happen, it happened on a knowledgeable yard. Any other yard and it would be good-bye doggie!

You got your hands full with this one! Maybe you can open a thread about how to take care of these types of situations (spider and snake bites in the yard). Just a suggestion (eager to learn).

Hi i had a chow chow once and it he was bit by a spider and did the same thing but i dont know if you went to the vet but i would because the spider that bit my chow was a brown reclues spider can you see the bite if so dose it look like it is getting better or dose it look like minst meat because the outer biter will start to look like that and the inside might be worse i dont see a bite from your pics but i would take your dog to the vet because it will kill your dog just giveing you some advise the brown reclues is deadly. thanks

Shes back to normal now...lol i still im not sure what it was that bit her. The bite mark looked like a snake bite..But its just too damn cold for snakes. If it was a spider it was not a brown recluse. they have a flesh poison, so where the bit is it will look almost like a gun shot hole. Her bite never abcessed. There was no need to take her into the vet. I had everything here they would of treated her with. I DO NOT ADVISE PEOPLE TO TREAT THEIR DOGS AT HOME...I ONLY DO BECAUSE I HAVE THE KNOWLEDGE TO DO SO...IF YOUR DOG GETS INJURED OR BITE BY ANY KIND OF POIOSNIOUS ANIMAL TAKE THEM TO THE VET..

glad to here your pit is doing better also was your pit on a chain or running around because it could have been a snake because i ask a guy at the college about snakes in the cold he said that it not likly that the snake came out of it hiding spot but if the pit was digging around or got under something thats when it could have striked . but any way glad that she better.
